Remove/improve hunger system?

I'm not being an arrogant smart ass, I'm saying this topic has been brought up so much that it's been ground into the dirt at this point. There is a search feature that allows you to see if the item you are looking for has been discussed, and in suggestions the faulty hunger bar has been discussed in so many ways that it's literally just beating a dead horse. I may have stated what I meant to say in a way that was not the most tactful, but the point still stands. Honestly, people should wait for the next beta stage to see where they go with it.

I make banana bread, it has goodhealth regeneration and makes me run fast, it's not hard to make a lazy farm for food that sates hunger longer than alien meat.

I only refine enough for what I need, nulls the pain of death.

Hunger might be a bit more of a problem if people actually cared about dying. I hope the next wipe brings some new aspects to dying.

I was too eager to spawn Florans. Had no iron, no iron on my home planet, and good frigging luck finding iron in mid sectors.
Seriously, I hardly find iron past Beta sector. Must've dug for a solid hour or two, it's all replaced by titanium and platinum.

I'd add to that list a really small health regen while above 50% hunger that heals more the fuller you are, that'd give a reason too to keep filled because you could simply heal from that between the rather rare fights in caves.

Also when reaching 50% the damn hunger bar shouldn't hide anymore <.< that's annoying, and the warning siren when starving is meh too.

I saw a thread made a while back that called the current tier of ores "different coloured iron," and rightly so, the game pretty much guts the world of any iron because apparently you don't need it anymore in the later sectors.
If you want iron it is best just to go back to beta/alpha.

The only reason I'd care for pixels is because you need pixels to scan stuff into your 3d printer for some bizarre reason. Why does so much of the basic furniture like a simple modern table cost a fortune to put in the system?

True that. Too many games going for the HUDless screen aesthetic. Starbound is one of the few games I'd like to see more from the UI rather than less.

Yeah, takes a lot of fuel though. It's just an inconvenience. And the game seems to forget that steel is still important later on.

I'd like to see the hunger bar under the health or stamina bar, to be honest. That popup is just... not my thing.

Now that I think about it, I'm not really a fan of the slow moving, stacking gray boxes that appear when you pick stuff up. But of course, it's possible a few UI changes and improvements are on the way.

A long with the heat/cold bar you get on planets, it would be a nice detail. Mods can easily fix this so no biggie really.

For iron, I keep my home planet on beta sector so I can quickly teleport back with ease. It's also where I keep my kitchen that I never use.

My home planet is in beta sector and I kinda mined it dry lol

It was until they started opening the doors and getting their dumbass selves eaten

Now I just wall them in

I quite agree with this point! I'd like to see us respawn... wherever we eventually do (bed/home/ship/etc) with 1/2 or 1/4 health, and need to eat to regain vitality- make having a stash of goodies in a little "barfridge" beside my bed all the more worthwhile!

I love farming, planting, cooking - crafting items in general, and I can see once we reach further stages of testing/beta and really get some interesting recipes, plus the ones that are particular to each race (which we know are coming), more than likely some will have unique buffs depending on what you eat. I, for one, like having the hunger bar. Even now I carry around little riceballs that are so easy to make, bread, and those chili things that make me one hot mama!

quite a selection you have there, meanwhile I'm over here making all my characters vegetarians just to give myself a reason to make farms in the first place. I'd like it if there were benefits to doing what your doing, at the moment the cooking system is a little stale.

The stage one beta response in a thread like this does make you an arrogant smart ass..

This is a topic that bares discussion, and it's topics like these that help guide them to where they go with it in the next stage.

I'm a Veg too, so past the initial quest have tossed all my meats away, just to mix things up. Go ol' three eyes :metroid:

I can easily gather 200 meat then cook it in the 16 nano stoves I carry around for some reason(I really dont know why)
when I find a place to buy meat I buy at least 500, im currently at over 600
but hunger just keeps you from dying. I would love to see hunger do something interesting then "you dont die... for now"
I grow wheat and bananas to make banana bread, and only eat it if im low on hp, meat is my main food source

Not necessarily. As I've pointed out in previous threads, not every mechanic in a game is (or even should be) life or death.
Although the hunger system does need some improvements.

Alright, then allow me to apologize, I let my irritation for threads about the hunger system get the better of me. I was hoping to say one thing and it meant the other. For that I am profoundly sorry. If you want me to tell you how I feel about the hunger system, I would say it's incomplete and the number of markers is too few to make a big difference, if you want to make a realistic hunger system base it on reality. We need 1800-2200 calories as a standard human sized creature. How come eating a single ingredient for food fills two bars? I feel that there's not enough importance placed on hunger, but at the same time, how do you make hunger work without it being entirely tedious? Either way Like I said the discussion is a dead horse and it's being constantly beaten. You all have my most profound apology if you feel I was being arrogant. I think the attitude would properly describe how I felt then was "fed up".

So you didn't get enough chewing out yet did you. <3

Also, Yeah I find it weird the tutorial missions tell you to kill a creature for meat, then throw it away if you don't eat meat. Kinda undermines the point of not eating meat. >_>

Since I'm in the mood of logical debate, I would actually find that if hunger was necessary to apply very helpful buffs would help offset people that eat the moment the bar ticks down once. There would need to be some form of consumption delay and some kind of debuff for over eating (we've all done it).
