Sorry, Lord Scrappington, but I'm stealing your thread. No hard feelings but I started writing a reply and it kinda got out of hand... also you spelled oxygen wrong. Oh and thanks!

Don't give me that "It's already been posted before" attitude (not referring to Lord Scraps post) because if it was, it's long dead.

I think I see what you're saying, what I imagine when reading what you wrote is almost like a bubble machine that would fill up a room. But since you'v provided next to no detail of description on your suggestion, most people would probably not understand what you're implying, therefore "its a really simple context" may be true in your head, but that's about it. I totally forget which one it was, maybe Crystal Chronicles, but there was a Final Fantasy game on GameCube I once played as a tiny child where you had to carry around a crystal which created an oxygen barrier to keep out toxic chemicals or something. Would be neat to build an air bubble-shield generator or something. Either that or work on an airlock/air-pressure system for buildings. Or both.

Was this removed? I'll keep this here until I find it I guess.

Now, it's been a while since I've posted so my brain is working at record speeds (that's like mach hamster-wheel) and I'm attempting to chuck out as many ideas as I can.
    • Air Vents
    • Heat Vents
    • Environment Bubble Generator
Here is a quick house I made to help illustrate stuff:

    Air Ventilation System
I think it would work well if you imagine it like how FTL works with oxygen in spaceships. You could have like one oxygen generator that either generates oxygen (maybe an upgraded version of the latter) or one that uses tanks you need to fill buy/make then fill up on a planet with air, or a space station. The machine could be hooked up to vents via actual vent panels that must be placed as blocks or background walls connecting the open vents to the machine itself almost like pipes. Using tanks that you need to fill up might be a bit too much maintenance though, so slow and unlimited oxygen generation like FTL would work. The unique part that works for Starbound is that you need to actually hook it up. It could be a simple recipe like 1 iron/durasteel/whatever bars create 10 or so blocks because real vents are super thin sheet metal anyway right? Maybe you could create armored vents with more metal for outside pipes because those dust storms would normally break holes in thin vent shafts, but they're safe indoors or behind walls.

Imagine the computer thingy in the upper room as a placeholder for the Oxygen Generator and the blue dirt is the vent system. The small room between doors on the right is an example of an airlock or something.

    Heat Ventilation System
There could be a similar/identical concept with heat, too. I actually thought this up a while back when I tried to make a moon base (alpha) and I had to litter the place with campfires. Sure, there's space heaters, but in realistic space/moon base concepts there's interior heating that doesn't include burning wood in every room. If I knew anything about code I'd try to make it myself but I don't, and I'd probably give up halfway through anyway because I'd be working for free and I'm greedy. But then again, having two vent systems would be a bit messy, so why not have 3 options in total? The Oxygen Vent System, the Heated Vent System, and the Oxy-Heat Vent System! Or just the combined one. Call it like: The Ventmosphere or something stupid/clever like that.

Here is what it might look like to have both the Heat Vent system AND the Oxygen vent system at the same time. It's slightly cluttered but looks kinda cool to me. It would look cooler if the vents weren't dirt though! The green "vents" to the left of Crabes head is supposed to be vents in the the foreground crossing over top of the oxygen vent.

    Environment Bubble Generator (EBG)
Back to the bubble idea, though, maybe further down the "tech tree" you could build nodes that just spew out oxygen and create a tiny livable atmosphere, or make an individual room livable. It could be kind of like a portable thing used in Space-Camping (watch out for space bears!). Alternatively, it could be built at the same time as the vent system and could be like a cheaper and simpler version for those who just have a small home and don't need to get fancy. The vents would be more for bases, stations and aesthetics whereas the EBG would be used just for it's practicality.

I don't feel like making more examples and I already closed Starbound so... imagine the bubble of air is like the bubble of heat around a campfire. If you're close enough you can breathe.

    PS:
Well that's all I got for now. I was gonna say something about a power/electricity/hydro system too, but it would seem like a pointless and unnecessary additional complication to my already too-complex-to-be-fun ideas. I've been out of the loop forum-wise for a while so please don't crucify me for speaking my mind. One last thanks/sorry to Lord Scrappington for uhh... lending... this thread idea. I just think his thread was lacking in detail and you know what happened next (this).

Please, I know it's old... but... look?

Amazing, I agree to with this and the shop thread.

[sarc]Yes, because I want my Aztec-themed pyramid base riddled with out-of-place ductwork.[/sarc] Use wiring. It's already in game and relatively unobtrusive (if only we could get the logic gates hidden).
The term you're looking for is "Life Support."

The whole point of a suggestion is to pitch an idea to add to the game. If I limited my thoughts to "it's already in the game" then I'd have no suggestions at all and you wouldn't be able to make your snide and unhelpful comments. It's also much more constructive to provide useful feedback that is something more than just "that's dumb" or "use wiring". Wiring is a good idea, but its far from unique or interesting.

But yeah I definitely gotta agree with the logic gates sticking out like a sore thumb... :disguise:

Maybe, but when I think Life support I think of something in a hospital/med bay that keeps you alive. Also Oxyheater is (I think) original and is a lot less serious without getting too silly. If it were a real product, people would be less willing to buy something called "life support" because they would feel like they're about to die. :rip:

"Use wiring" is constructive feedback, because it means the devs don't have to code an entirely new system, which means they can get this implemented faster as well as other suggestion. As is "hey, let's not force people into aesthetic choices just because they don't want to die horrible deaths in their bases," because aesthetics are a thing in this game, as the dozen or so different types of tables attest to. If you really want ductwork, then use titanium, steel, or light metal panels; whatever contrasts with your base. There's no reason to inflict your aesthetic choice on others.
