As technology progresses I am 100% sure that religion in some form will survive. Faith in a greater power is something that is never going to leave a sentient race and I'd love to see how this would be tackled in the Starbound Universe. Although I myself am not religious, I am utterly fascinated by modern and ancient mythology. Religion is a great way to establish a people or even a whole culture. It provides much insight on a person and his ideals. It also allows for many extra plot points and interactions. For example if you've ever played Dead Space, you may agree that the Church of Unitology added an extra layer of depth to the universe that aided the over all narrative or feel of the game. Religions may act as another type of "faction" but they will be much more over encompassing. This means that even people from many different races or groups may be part of the same religion. There may also be special perk to each religion such as free access to certain planets or a good reputation with certain NPCs. I was going to add example religions but that would turn this into of a more race suggestion.
A great idea, but I think it is more an aspect of the role play. As everyone plays, remains one left to themselves, I think, for example on religious Corporations. (sry for my english, ist not my main language)
There are Avians that are religious, just not the ones that went rogue and ventured out into space from what I hear. I think this would make sense and it's probably in the game in some way.
Right, it should be more about what religion best correlates to each specific person. I find that big groups like religions are great for giving insight on what the character your talking to is like for both NPCs and actual players. Yeah, this is just my little way of encouraging development for such an idea.
Nice OP and I agree with you, as well as share similar interests - While I'm not religious myself, I find ancient mythology quite interesting. ^^ In addition, I do believe that these types of games where several races/civilisations are presented, different religions add a good chunk of *essence* to the whole thing. It also allows for experimentation with concepts that aren't so common in the 'real world', such as the worship of technology. ^^ As mentioned, the most religious ones so far seem to be the Avians, who worship Kluex, whom they believe has ascended to the Nether. (Or something among those lines )
harlem shake religion... http://hsmaker.com/harlemshake.asp?url=http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php
How much I can kill before that can happen? I am against religions, and it's fine of people are part of it, it is not my bussiness, but thay have done horrible things against the world, and if I can't stop and bunch of zealots from kill innocent people for the joy of a god in the real life, al least I can do it in a game. Did't you like clean the Salazar's castle from zealots in Resident Evil 4 or shoot unitologist util leave them just a torso in Dead Space 3? Sorry, this is not the place to talk about this, but is my opinion. I'm not talking about ALL the religions, I'm just talking about a few, and I prefer not to name them for not offending anybode here.
as long as there is religion people will kill each other over it...(even if it is different interpretations of the same god...) thus I foresee conflict...
I don't think it deserves a medal all I'm doing is pointing out the fact that in human history religion is one of the most common causes of war... Take the Protestant reformation, there people were murdering each other for having a slightly different religious belief...
There are two sides to everything, friend. Religion can bring immense suffering and hatred, that is all completely true but on the flip side they help many people and provide support and self reflection. I am not religious but I understand and respect these principles. Also using those video games as examples makes for a somewhat poor argument. Both of those games put religion in a bad light on purpose for the sake of storyline and development, which can be related to religion but is hardly representative of it. That can be said about many things, you'll hard pressed to find anything that humans won't kill each for. Besides, it makes for a good story, no?
and that was the point... for a game... after all what would you do in a world with a perfect society?
Dude, I'm saying that I like to kill religions members in games when they get "conflictive". I can give a speech about religions and how I HATE THEM am indifferent to them but I don't want to be "conflictve"...yes......so I can kill the members of the religion or no?
you got the point (didn´t even read anything xD) i think, it´s a good idea, since we have a something to start wars (religions FIGHT!)
What if a same race had 2 different religions, like, half the Avians believes in the mighty Ungladar and the other half believes in the awesome Ultrachicken. And then they had an internal war about religion and stuff like that ;-;
