Release's and Us

Dose anybody else think that sense we gave the creators of starbound all of this money (1.5 Million usd) that we have in turn postponed the release of the game because they have all of this money to roll around in and just add whatever things they want to. Sure it will make the pre-release better but we could have possibly already had the game by now. Anybody agree with me? Leave your opinion if you think this is a valid or invalided point.

Eh, no because I trust the devs of Starbound and they give us daily updates so they definitely listen to the community as a whole. The devs know we want information but they can't release the game to beta status because they feel it isn't there yet. I trust their judgement on their baby.

 

...you're kidding me right?

The whole point of the preorders was to allow the devs to fully work on the games without the worry of monetary support.

If the Pre-order would have went differently (only making $2000) They may have tried to use that money to rush the game to completion. Probably releasing the game next month due to them having to work two jobs and not making the money from the pre-order.

 

I am not asking for a beta right now. I am saying what if they didn't make all of the money. would we have had the game in our hands already or would it still be under construction. Its just that the game will be very great and i trust the devs in that. But would we have had the game sooner if they didn't make as much.

Ontopic: No, that's not true. They're using the money to perfect the game to the utmost degree. You'll see in early August when the beta is released- at least, when I think it will be.

 

I believe Chucklefish very quickly realized that their funds existed mainly as a number in a bank and not a hoard of coins, and that the dream of rolling in cash a la Scrooge McDuck would remain a distant dream.

That being said, I doubt they are losing production time to this rich recreation, though if they are I would like to see a video of it so I can live vicariously through it?

He is saying what if the devs didn't get all that money from the pre-orders? They would have to work two jobs work on the major parts of the game to try and get it finished faster. Shorter Release

But since the devs made 1.5 Million dollars they now have the time to add extra content, work on it longer, and not have to rush. Longer release

 

you have not got it either. because of the money release is taking longer because they want to get the game better(i am fine with this because i am truthfully really looking forward to this game) but if the pre-order went differently would they have rushed the game like carcrasher stated.

 

I'd imagine that it'd give them more money to support the development of the game and hire on new employees to assist in the creation of content. Also, if they cared that much about money they would have released the game prematurely.

If faced with the choice of "shallow, obviously unfinished game now or fleshed out content-rich game later" my opinion is firmly with the latter. Mostly because I personally think that the effect of tons of content is lost if you get it in a slow trickle because content is added over a significant timespan (see Minecraft). I'd rather have Starbound hit me in the face and send me flying rather then receiving it via IV-drip.

 

Ah, I see. The way the OP was worded made me think otherwise...

Regardless, I don't think the devs want to prolong the game's development anymore than it already is currently. They've even stated they're going to hire another artist to get the Novakids in to prevent losing time by adding this race. Obviously we've 'delayed' it a bit with the kickstarter-styled add-ons (Fossils and Pets), but the game's not coming out anytime soon anyways. More things to do / see are always welcome additions in my book. As Zody said before me, I'd like Starbound to be filled to the brim with content rather than empty with gradual add-ons over time.

 

Just read the daily updates and you'll see it wasn't and isn't ready. It's looking damn good though!

 

The whole purpose of the pre-orders was because some of the members of the team had to take second jobs to survive and this was cutting into development time. The pre-order was started so that those members could quit their second jobs and work on Starbound full time.
