Computer is ready on my end, but I'm going with FO4 on PS4 for now to evade the inevitable bugstorm at launch. As far as NFS, don't intend on taking that one online, so it's better on big screen, console for sure. Star Wars...I foresee it's server pop being higher on PS4 than PC, so I'm banking on that. Pre-ordered for PS4. We'll see though.

Seriously? Why would you ever get a game like that on console when you can play it on PC? They ironed out most bugs pretty quickly after launch, plus much better graphics.. and Fallout has always had a HUGE mod community; addons, total conversions... that's one of the best things about that game.

Also; Anno 2205, X-Com 2, Star Wars: Battlefront, Dead Island 2, Total War: Warhammer, Might & Magic 7.

Some games somewhat similar; Wild Season and World's Dawn are worth keeping an eye on. One or two more but I cant remember atm.

Well Half-life 3 is scheduled to be released approximately after the last proton in the universe decays: about 10^33 years from now; so sometime well before then.

I made an account solely to post my frustration. The last time I checked on this game was January of 2014. I had completely forgotten about it until recently when replaying Rune Factory 4 and decided to check up on it. I was surprised to find it's still being worked on and based on what I saw in previous posts while catching up, it doesn't look like it's going to be finished (ConcernedApe is redoing the message boxes now? I assume the menu graphics are next or something.). Before you get ticked off, I put forth the case of Golden Sun. People waited for Golden Sun Dark Dawn and look what happened. They waited and waited and waited and OH BOY IT CAME OUT...except very few people who played the first two were still there. Needless to say, Camelot fizzled out. I looked forward to this game when the hype train left the station a while back and now I fear if ConcernedApe released it tomorrow, it would still be too late. Odds are good this post will get drowned out by ConcernedApe's supporters in this forum but whatever. Stardew Valley had a lot of potential and now it might be too late and that makes me sad.

You have a good point. I know that I'm as eager as the next person to play CA's game and wish that it was out yesterday, or the day before. However, I don't think that the amount of time the game has been in development hindered or taken away it's potential to be a great game at all. I do agree, though, that the potential of max player-base has come and gone. That doesn't mean that it won't grow after release, especially if we as players get out there and spread the word. So I would say that there's no need to worry. I have confidence that this game will be amazing (considering CA's dedication to going through the majority of the game and fine-tuning it for us) and that if we all do our part in spreading the word then a nice sized community will spring up around it.

I used to say what User255 said before, because he's somewhat right (you're both right, in a sense). I think CA learned from it and if he does make another game after this, he will probably keep things mostly under wraps until the game is nearly done. Part of me is worried that waiting 3+ years for a casual game is going to leave a veeeery big opportunity for being disappointed on some level. On the other hand, better this than the way Starbound is happening: lots of hype and praise, mostly successful early access launch - go look at the current reviews on steam. they all echo the same sentiment "how is this game still in development/how does this game still have no content" etc.

It's been talked about, at length, how it's disheartening to get updates about minor things that can be easily patched. I DON'T think this game will get abandoned. But yeah, some of us wish he weren't being so finicky about certain things. but what can be done, really? we have nothing to go on, release date or otherwise. so it's done when it's done, and whoever is around can enjoy it.

I honestly have no idea how this game is going to be received after launch. There's already a small group of us patiently waiting, and there's definitely less people waiting here than there was a few years ago. I feel like this game had potential to be an instant hit, had it been released around the same time it was most hyped up. I think now, the best case scenario is it becomes a cult classic. Fingers crossed that someone like TotalBiscuit reviews it, or the yogscast plays it. People appreciate games released completed. Reversely, there are games like Legend of Grindea, which is BARELY finished, and has nothing but glowing reviews and people praising the game to the heavens, and has a strong cult following. When Stardew Valley is released, CA has GOT to get the game shown to the right people. There's literally like... what, ten of us here still on board? That's not enough to sustain word-of-mouth marketing.

Look at it this way: if stardew valley were available in early access, we would have all played, been bored of it by now, and abandoned it because it still isnt finished after all this time.

What I'm trying to say here is that even though hype has a shelf life, at least he's giving it the best fighting chance by releasing a completed game.

I've written games before and it is A LOT of work; even a small game can tie you up for a couple of months. The fastest I've written a game was a scrolling shooter which is just simple code everyone has done over and over so I did it in a day. My first single player RPG I wrote back in the 1980s took a good 3 years of work just to finish and I was never happy with the final result. The internet really facilitates communication and the ability of the impatient to rant. This is why the smart ones don't say much about a project in production unless they want some attention to keep motivated or cash to keep working (there have been and will always be bad apples but that's another story).

When you are a one person show or a small team you'll always run long in your dev unless you buy stock stuff from someone else or outsource--and the longer your code is in production the bigger the chance of someone else with more money, larger team, better organized etc creating something else that steals the show. I ran into that in 2011 when I decided to make a Master of Magic clone called Masters of the Arcane. Two years into development someone else came out with their own Master of Magic clone with the exact same title. Fortunately I didn't announce my game to anyone but I was floored. What are the odds? I had to scrap it or re-write huge chunks else I be blamed for ripping off their game. I'm now doing something totally different with the same art assets: On the plus side I'm pretty sure it's unique :)

The point is game development takes time and there are always risks. My suggestion for people who can't wait is: invest your time in something else and forget about the game. Just that. If they have some sort of alert via steam or email then sign up for it else move along and when it's done? Hey awesome, something to enjoy.

Sadly, the jokers saying December have a point. Judging from Ape's previous statements of being nearly done, only to suddenly go back to change something, we are dealing with a perfectionist developer who is not satisfied with his work. He has all but outright promised the game is coming this year, but like a procrastinator with their due date months away, he may think he has time still to perfect the game. Technically, he does. But at some point it's just no longer feasible, and he runs the risk of pushing the release into next year, which would almost completely destroy the last vestiges of hype the game has.

I was mostly joking btw, but tbh I expect the worst (delay). I always do in moments like that. I hope that im wrong but we'll see...

Anyways, even if he released it in 5-10years I will still be watching for the monthly updates and buy the game when its ready...! ;)

I'm fairly certain he's aware of the hype the game has and knows that waiting too long will end the hype somewhat

Its nearly done in any case. He has told us itd be only a few more months. And its been a month or two since he last said that.

Well it's about time for another update. If CA sticks with what he said when he's done with the progression content he's going to work on the more technical stuff so december is still a reasonable estimate. Lucky for me I have Metal gear solid 5pp and fallout 4 to distract me.

                                    Personally, being one of the newer members of the Stardew Valley fanbase, I don't really care how long it takes CA as long as the game meets the following criteria;
                                    • It lives up to everyone's expectations, and,
                                    • It feels like all this time spent on development has been worth it.
And yes, I'm hoping for an update anytime now.
