Why not just make a summon-able lamp? Like the boat or hoverbikes, use a controller to summon the lamp, and interacting with it causes it to float around you and generate light. Can be purchased from penguin pete for 20,000 pixels or so, so torches are still necessary for early-game. Also, maybe higher-brightnesses of lamps can be purchased for higher prices. What do you guys think?

Use.....uselessness ?! Here's someone who never played hardcore oO However I support ideas like the chest-pocket attached lamps that exist IRL. Or Flashlight Headbands that could be easily worn together with a helmet. So ya.
I just use a lumoth, he can be a bit random but he's useful if you don't want to use a light augment and need to wear an EPP. Don't forget to equip him with an oblivious collar though.
