Might be a good idea considering some have no clue how to convert as well.

'Course, but at those kind of temperatures - if I'm remembering right - any other kind of life would be roasting alive/turning into solid ice anyhow. (Or, at least, need special protection beyond typical spacesuits.)

Well im just saying that because they are made of gas, doesn't mean they are entirely immune to being cold and hot.

Oh, yeah. Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest, like, Novakids should be immune to the temperature of a pulsar or some crazy shit. xD Just, like, they don't suffer ill effects from being improperly dressed in 'normal' settings, like Antarctica-levels of cold or similar stuff like that.

The only problem I can see.
    Races don't have special abilities

Kelvin grades are simple too! 300°K is a line between "warm" and "hot", so you have your starting point to compare to )

I think they should measure the temp in penguins.

So judging by the scale, it is -3 Penguins with a total + or - of 5 Penguins.

    Clearly the best option.

I have to suggest that the temperature be measured by the Delisle scale! On a serious note it should not be of any of the measurements and be its own thing.

edit: If they keep the scale in the mock up and assuming that it starts at 0 on the far right and lowers toward the left and -180 being roughly 5.5 boxes down that gives 99 degrees per box and a total scale of 0 to -990 which yes closest matches the Fahrenheit scale but does not match any of the scales completely because it goes lower then any of them.

second edit: If you want to assume it goes up as well as down 0 being the mid point then half a box is -180 and the full scale goes from -1800 to 1800

Yea I had the same thought. Even if it's only a mockup, those penguins would look like a bunch of popsickles in this temperature :)

The most fun thing IMO would be to use different systems for different races (different middlepoint aka 0 compared to Kelvin scale) as their science developed separately. Why would they all have the same scale?

That reminds me of K.I.S.S rule (Keep It Simple Stupid). Too much features can be burden to some players and since the game supports modding, im sure there will be players who will take survival to next level :)

what if it is in kelvin?

    Kelvin doesn't have a negative.

Ah, but what if you have a less numerical temperature reading? "Really really cold -> Pretty cold -> Chilly -> Temperate -> Warm -> Hot -> Roasting -> I'm on Fire!" with each race liking a different temperature, for example. Gear acclimatizing you would go up or down one point in the meter or something. Not as science-y, but it would be interesting.

I'm more worried about all those pixels. He most likely has a pixel printer hidden on Hoth, I must call the space-911.

Hey, it is not Kelvin, as Kelvins aren't measured in degrees :p. There is _no_ 300°K, there is 300K :). Not to mention negative values for Kelvins are impossible, as noted by Adell! 0K is absolute zero, temperature at which any movement of particles ceases... it is impossible, negative values are even more impossible ;).

You forgot to add "according to conventional modern physics" :p You cannot prove something is impossible to do or does not exist in principle.

You got me here :). I agree, but still don't think temperature on the screen is in Kelvins! :p
