how bout drm-free first and then updated every stage and then steam 2nd =D? (since steam can obv be done quicker)
Thank you so much for the reply, im just super excited for the beta is all, and i just want to be able to experience what you all have been working on, keep it up!
I personally use and prefer steam, so if you provide me with a fully working, self updating beta build, i will be the happiest person on the world. On the other side, i can see why people wouldn't like to use steam so I think that there should also be a DRM free version of the game
3 is the most viable option. Bottom line: a DRM free version will be produced, so why not enable you guys to do it faster and easier? People who don't like steam get their prize eventually, and if they really want to they can get the beta on steam when it's out..
This. Gives everyone that bought the game the chance to at least see how the game is progressing through the beta, and still gives people a chance to play the game. If I had a top hat and a monocle, good sir, I'd tip the hat to you and wink through the monocle. *Edit - I'm talking about the second half, of course.
not gonna lie, i can use both kinds. so option three suits me just fine, however it would be nice for some of some of the beta busters (bug finding geniuses) to have the drm-free version should they not be able to use steam for whatever reason. so option 2 or 3 for me.
Option 3: The people who really want to play in the early beta probably won't care if they have to install steam to do it. The DRM free version can be provided at later stages.
As much as it is nice to ask the community about this type of thing..., you all have sold a lot of pre-ordered copies, from people like me who don't like to have to sign up for forums and vote on the matter. There are only like 130 comments on this topic, that is not a fair representation of the pre-order community so I would be cautious about how you all interpret such a small sample size. You should probably be consulting an outside expert as opposed to asking the community. The title is already delayed, is it not? Additionally, if you can produce a game more efficiently at this point using Steam then I would be shocked and somewhat dismayed that you would even consider a DRM version. This is especially true b/c most of the Steam detractors that I read here are simply noobs/console gamers who aren't invested in the PC community.
I don't want to give people the impression that stage 1 will be totally unplayable! Otherwise we wouldn't be releasing it. However it will have bugs-- some potentially game-breaking, or game-crashing-- and it won't be feature-complete, and we just want people to be prepared for that so as not to have angry mobs of disappointed fans who expected more out of the Progenitor stage. I'm asking for general thoughts, not tallying up opinions.
A weekly update of the drm free version wouldn't be too hard compared to option one. This would also help limit the number of bug reports for bugs that have been killed already
from what i have seen, queen molly, of the livestreams, insomiac yogscast thingy, and other released media, it looks to be rather well done for just beta, if there are any bugs left for us we'll squash em but you guys seem to be working wonders.
Option 3. As I will do my best to report the bugs on steam forums. How will we receive our steam keys? by our email where we pre-ordered the game or on here? Edit: Never mind it has been answered thank you mollygos!
