Clearly the way to go is Number 3 , I understand people who CANT use steam for some reason (don't know if such reason exists tho) ... but asking the developers of a game to go trough all that trouble just because they "don't like steam" its really stupid. They already said they would make a non-steam version when the game is released , that should be more than enough.

There's going to be a non-Steam version of the beta no matter which option is chosen as well.

If option 3 is the way to go, the silver lining for those who can't/wont use steam, is that the fully finished game will be out sooner than if options 1 or 2 had been taken, which obviously benefits everybody :)

Definitely not option 1 (I don't want to be stuck with an annoying death bug that won't be fixed quickly)

Option 2: By "Not compatible with the steam version" do you mean that multiplayer wouldn't work between the two or..?

My vote is 3, maybe 2... maybe

EDIT: sorry I thought I had finished that sentence

Option 3 sounds like it'd work out. Most people do use Steam, and those who don't can wait for a little bit. So long as it's not *shudder* Origin.

On top of not having the same bugs/features/circumstances as the more up to date version, so bug reports from that version would have to be taken with a grain of salt, if not ignored completely.

Can someone tell me why people wouldn't be able to use steam?
I know at least 120 people who are anywhere from casual gamer to hardcore gamers and every single one of them has a computer with internet access and steam.
I don't understand wanting something without DRM? The only logical reason I can think of is that people who don't want DRM are planning to "Acquire" the game by other means. (or they don't have reliable internet in which case steam works offline anyway)

The common (and often times, only) argument I've seen around the forums for why they won't use Steam even for a second to just install the game if it doesn't need Steam to run, is simply because they do not want to.

That's about it, there's not much more to it than that. Only 1 person has said that Steam just doesn't work for them.

A way to look at it, is they're essentially PC-gaming vegetarians, and while there's nothing to be held against them for that, there is something to be said about not caring about slowing down the beta process because of a choice that they themselves have made. Especially since they're not being left out entirely, and a "vegetarian" beta option would be made available at a later date when the game is more stable.

I am going to have to vote 3 as well, that way people still get to play and it wont hurt the advancement of the beta :)

I definitely say option 3. If you have to have DRM-free then I would much rather that be available just ... later. Having the option to do fast, automatic updates means development goes and finishes faster.

I think that's what we all want.

Option 3. I Don't see any problems with Steam. ( Waiting for it to be available in steam store)

    OPTION THREE!
But really, it seems the best. Gets out quicker, on a stable platform, and if people don't want to use Steam that's on them. I figure the majority of the population is using it anyway.

I vote do what gets the game finished quickest.... I love STEAM.... so no problems there..... do what is the easiest to get auto updated (which I think is option 3)

Any word on beta release ETA yet?

While i'm planning to use steam, i believe that option 2 should be the way to go, it wouldn't be fair to those who live on the other side of an aggressive proxy or similar blocking technology to be denied the beta just because they can't access steam. With that said option 1 wouldn't be fair to those who do use steam (denying faster updates) or the developers (more work to upload the latest build constantly).
Option 2 could work pretty well since i don't believe many people who use steam will be playing with those who can't, and if they will, they can talk about it before starting. I'd suggest an asap patching on steam and weekly updates (or something around that timescale) for the non-steam version and delay the later one one week so that the insta-crash bugs can be detected before they download... 1 GiB? more? less?... whatever the beta data size is.

Perhaps just make the steam version run without steam? Fine compromise I'm sure for the people who hate steam... Just use it to download it.

About DRM free, i have steam and i use steam everyday, but i hate some things about steam.... i can,t actually say why, but I like games that doesn't need rare things to run, at least steam has a "disconected" option that allows you to play witout internet, because a lot of people has internet but not everyone can afford an internet conexion every month, (this is a bit of personal information but i dont care) I,m 20 years old, my first PC was an used windows XP (from my sister) that was on 2005 and in 2011 I received a Grant/scolarship and my parents allowed my to buy a neew computer and have an internet conexion, I lived all my live without internet, and people are to much accustomed to have internet conexion.... ¿what will happen if internet disapears tomorrow? no one knows, that why DRM Free must exist! (And i,m not pirate, better, i hate them!!! they ruined the PC games industry!!!)

I don't really see that working. Using Steam for just the download and nothing else would negate many of the appealing features of using a fully integrated game. Even then, those who dislike Steam wouldn't want to install it just to download a single game.

Genius way to buy some time again....why not Option 4 on Nintendo DC and edit an updated version of it every week and send it via U.P.S to each player. It's Obvious that you will use something flexible and easy way to update to do the stage one, steam or whatever...just do it now ,and update it fix bugs....let's us play beta, you will work faster on fixing bugs and stop try to find them alone.
