Well, I do like Steam for some reasons and I hate Steam for other reasons.

Since we're ALL craving for the game to be finished, just do what's best for you, developers. :)
So, I'll vote for 3, too.

Anyone that is even remotely arguing with option number 3 is just being selfish at this point, it's clearly the superior option for the sake of the game.

*Reads news about beta* -Yay! Starbound is finally going public. Let's see how our mature, respectable community reacted to this cheerful event.
*Opens comments, finds 40 pages of kids yelling STEAM!!! yanubz install it NAO!!11* -DRM-free guys, I'm with you, if all steam-users are like this I can see why you hate it.

Whatever the devs option, If I will choose to participate in beta(not likely, i have things to do IRL), I will find a way as long as they release it.

    I agree.

That or they could choose option 2 and disable bug reports from the DRM-free version. I'm not very much in favour of it though.

the whole point of beta is bug fixing, so disabling bug reports defeats the point of having a beta.

This entire thread needs to be re-posted as a Poll. And let everyone vote for like a week.
That way if Option 3 get majority, it's the chosen choice and if people complain, they should've had more votes for their preference.

    Vote 3

Option 3 has a clear majority.

I don't think they're after a majority. They're more interested in the reasoning behind it. It's not the place for a democracy, because we'd be getting votes from people who might not even try the first phase of beta.

And this discussion is irrelevant when it comes to the second and third phases of beta.

This is possibly one of the most biased posts I've ever seen on the internet, not to mention insanely ridiculous.
You do know steam has "Offline" mode right, which does not use the internet what so ever...
Also if you're being enough of a idiot to get your account banned you deserve to loose your money tbh.
Btw I have steam on my laptop, once I DL it I'll be able to play wherever I want from work to home.

Your logic is flawed beyond belief - although they could release steam with updates during beta and then just release a full direct download later on it time - which would make everybody happy, or at-least should BUT this is the internet where everybody cries and chucklefish will always be in the wrong :L

steaming piles of steamy steam is gonna come with all three options people. option 3 just has more pros than cons (yes i saw the weird con list and i can say most of that is bull n internet is cheap) sides, you'd still technically get beta access, probably in stage 2 or 3, due to major bug decrease and major increase of stability.

Steam games need to be intentionally programmed not to work without Steam, otherwise it is purely a delivery service. Put it on Steam for the early beta. Speed and efficiency is more important than unfounded paranoia.

Im up for number one, cause longer lengths of time in between updates just adds to the awesome suspense.

Unfortunately for you, it would cost you $25/month then to get updates, otherwise you can very well be happy stuck in the past if you want to have this kind of attitude.

WARNING!I'm russian man and my english it TERRIBLE!

I think that 2 opinion is BEST!

    Why 2 opinion:
+ Updating non-steam version takes MANY time to load,install,crack,modify...and other. While with steam it takes 1-3 minutes!
+ Non-steam version must use only stable updates because steam can recover you saves, mods, cracks and other stuff. While without it you must find game folder, copy it,save, update, past it...it takes MANY time and not the fact that it just dont crack.
+ Pirates need more time to crack steam versoin.

Why not 1 or 3 opinion:
    - Some people just CANT WAIT FOR IT! (3 opinion)
    - Non-steam version take many time to load it on servers. While this time can be used for next update release! (1 opinion)

With the number of posts so far, I'm sure you already have a better idea of where the community wants to go, but I'll weigh in anyway: I will only be playing this via Steam, and how the DRM-free version is handled will not impact me at all.
