If there was an answer to this question, it would be much easier. Wait so much easier when you know when it's what you expect. Alas.
The 3rd one sounds the best, since I like to use steam I have a question though: Releasing it on steam during beta means it will be available as early-access title, meaning you can buy it at any time during beta, right ? Because some of my friends only buy stuff via paysafecards and dont want to use their creditcard.
Depends if the beta will be windows only or if I will be able to play it on mac. If not I would prefer frequent updates of the DRM-free version as it is easier to run it through an emulator (option 1 or 2). Otherwise I'm ok with Steam (option 3).
Oh, I mean't no disrespect to the developers. I just assumed that the alternative copy was like "Have it DRM-free or steam, then you can invite a friend along with the alt. copy". Like a way to bring a friend in to play with you if no one else you know has it on-or- close to the release date. Though if that's the case, noted and apologies.
I think second would be okay for me. Having steam version sure is easy when it comes to updates but drm versio also sounds good.
If any of these actually happened on a widespread scale, they would just release a DRM version so people could play. And your adding internet costs for using Steam? Uhhh sorry, not convincing. Steam is using 0.02% of my processor and 2% of my ram. Less than skype. Or Firefox. Already have Win7 so no need for Linux. If you dont like Steam thats fine, but your arguments arent very good. You call it a virus, I call it the greatest thing to happen to gaming since the invention of the PC.
1. You don't need internet to play steam games. 2. You're obviously paying for the internet right now so stop complaining, 25 is cheap for the net. 3. I didnt know it was possible to get your steam account banned, you have to be pretty assinine to manage that. 4. You don't need the internet to play steam games.
If you don't have Internet, you: 1. can't preorder. 2. can't download it anyway. The game will be released Steam-free. They said so. It's still in the development phase. They're storing the code on their own servers... what happens to steam won't affect the availability of the game. It's merely the first phase of beta. We're one year late to talk about the end of the world.
