Basically, it is not a bad option before release a stable beta. Provided that this "demo build" will work fine. DareDreamer Do you think that all those people would have bought the game if they had not promised such a prize?
There is a considerable disadvantage to 2 or "2.5". You now have several different versions of the game floating around. Someone might be playing on a version a couple days old, not aware of a new version, find a bug and report it. Someone else is on a more recent version, but still an outdated version, also reporting issues. And people on the newest version reporting bugs. The bug reports from this is going to be a mess. Which version did this happen? Did this already get fixed? Is this a new issue? To avoid that, and get targeted bug reports, you want people on the same version of the game. Or not only are you going to spend more time on rolling out updates, but also in sorting through useles bug reports or figuring out where and when this bug did sneak in. And even if they'd go with option #1 people still wouldnt always be playing the most recent version. Because they werent aware of a new update, or because they dont feel like downloading a new client every couple of days, every day, or even several times a day.
Something between 1 and 2 because I definitely want to help finding bugs in the "unstable" version. I see the problem though and even though steam works for me, I would feel offended if it would not and as a result I would get left out with the unstable beta. I think the updates should not come with each bug fix or any thing this frequent but also should not take too much time. Even though I don't know your idea of long, I would imagine the optimal to be an update each week or every second week. But those people without steam should definitely be able to help even in the not so stable version, as well.
I've got a question! I've bought Starbound for a while from humble bundle store via link from you're Website. Is there any Chance for people who support you before the Game released to get a Playstation 4 Access for Starbound too, so you I don't need to buy it again? I know Starbound is not 100 % clearly ready for PS4 Release, but I would be very happy, if you guys would do that. Another Option, if you won't give a PS4 Key to the steam/humble Deal, is there any Chance for Cross Save Function? And I hope you release this awesome Game for PS Vita too, because there is no Game for the Vita that flashing the masses! Terraria Ps Vita Launch is canceled I think... So you would make me very happy regarding this. Sorry for Wrong Place, but Iam just a enthusiasting man. Love and Greetings from Germany. Yes, there is bad spoken language above!
Terrahero Some of Steam users may forget to activate the automatic update and continue to test the old version, so your argument is worthless.
I personally use steam , so option 3 best suits me, but option 2 seems like it could be a good compromise for those wishing for a DRM free version of the game too.
This is on by default as far as i know, far less likely to play an outdated version on steam then when you have to manually download updates. So i dont see how this makes my argument "worthles", which seems like a rather harsh response from you.
I'd go for option three myself, but if Steam didn't work for me I'd go with option one. I'm just trying to take a walk in others' shoes for a bit because it's always great to see both sides of a rainbow.
#3 makes the most sense to me, you guys shouldn't put yourself through so much trouble for how picky and computer illiterate someone is about not using steam. Some people just need to get with the times and use Steam like every other PC gamer.
I think something like 2.5 would work best. Release the first stage together, DRM/Non. And then once a week or so, throw out a new more stable build for the non-DRM crowd. Those who wish to play get regularly more stable builds. And those bug hunters are most likely using steam because it's quick and efficient. I'm not a terribly big fan of steam myself, and obstinately refused to use it at all until this last year or so, so I understand the general hate for the system from those that don't use it.
I think the 3rd option suits. Because we have to update as soon as possible to fix and find bugs quickly.
I don't think it is worth to work on a DRM free version when the so called DRM is Steam... They should study and implement Steamworks from the start so we can link an ingame player to a Steam profile #3 of course.
Many disable it. Molly would always warn us about the new update. This is not my native language, I sometimes use the wrong words.
I choose 3 There are computers that can't run steam? wow never knew. I had a computer that was made in 2004 somewhere around there it had xp and vista(vista was released close to 2007 i think) installed... steam worked "perfectly" as i remember anyway. I now have a newer computer of course. You can't really be called a gamer if you don't spend your hard earned money on your hardware can you? About the "need to be connected to the internet thing to play" makes no sense for one your using the internet right now... (also offline mode works nicely as i went without wifi for a while, no problems) If your computer can't run steam it most likely can't run this game. Plus steam workshop is really nice for mods its easy as a click to install them. I would like the DRM UHH FREE to be at release only but whatever.
Option 2 makes the most logical sense because it offers BOTH a Steam and DRM-free version, and since you're already going to update the DRM-free version less frequently with option 3, it comes out as the same result. Except with option 2 you're not kicking us DRM-free backers in the teeth, and the Steam compatibility issue makes no sense since the reason we want DRM-free is to avoid Steam.
