No, actually, you don't get it. And it still beats me why so many people simply can't handle someone thinking a little bit different than they do.

My choice isn't affecting you. Why attack me for it?
    Nice attitude. :p

cause you know that wont cost a load of money not to mention having to have someone available to answer the phone which will probably be spammed with calls for 2 solid hours after every update and loss of that which is most precious, time. that being said a CD version would be amazing AFTER the game is out of its beta and actually releases as long as its something bought separate since sending CD's to bagillions of people isn't very developer friendly since they are an indie developer with limited resources and not a triple A developer with large amounts of money and resources.

and on the off chance that you where making a joke that I didn't pick up on since it is very hard to sense the tone that one is trying to use over a stale internet comment then ignore this reply

I'd say go with option 3, Most and that's a big most, PC gamers use steam nowadays and it really allows you guys to get what you want and need to get done.

I vote for Option 3 because i don't have to look for the updates then and its integrated with the steam workshop.
I also use steam on daily basis so i'm fine with it.

But maybe offering Weekly DRM Free updates to costumers who not like to use steam - so they're not left out.
It's harder to update something like you could do with steam - except you implement a launcher and go the Edge of Space way, which i don't really recommend / like.

Option 3 for me; seems the least work you have to do to get the beta test going, you can push your updates out that way without having to reinvent the distribution wheel.

With how the first phase of beta sounds to be setup, this works the best for you to start with anyway.

why dont give the steam key and let the hackers worry about the DRM-Free, cuz its just a matter of time before they find a way ( they always do)

Whatever is best for you guys, honestly. You're the devs :)

I suppose I was being a bit mean with the whole "Can we dismiss you yet?" So I offer an apology to you for that.

Your choice does have an effect on how the devs feel about the development process; otherwise they wouldn't have asked for community about it. If they acknowledge and honor the request for a DRM-free version and it slows down their development time. (Which they have expressly said it would) They WILL be affected if they have enough of a vocal minority that they acknowledge. Then development time is further slowed down, and suddenly your choice DOES affect me.

I have an open-minded attitude about your side of things; but even after reading all of your thread twice, I still don't get WHY Steam is not an accessible platform for you. You seem very firm in this belief.
Why is Steam's DRM unreasonable to you? Is it an OS issue? Hardware? Do you want to give five copies to your friends and not be judged for it?

Simply put, the devs have said that creating a DRM-free version of the game creates more work for them. There are a lot of downsides to even creating a DRM-free version to begin with. Especially with Steam being their primary platform to begin with. That time spent working the kinks out for a DRM-free version to appease about 8% of the fanbase could be time spent working the kinks out of Steam Workshop integration, or working the kinks out of the final realease.

The problem isn't that I "can't handle someone thinking a little bit different than they do" it's that you have not provided any real argument. You haven't made any attempt to convince us of your standpoint beyond linking us to a conversation that contains no relevant information.

I still say go with 3. I like steam, and less time messing around with files means more time working on the game, and less headaches for small studio's first release.

I prefer 3, steam would makes it easier, and i'm confused how anyone "couldn't" use steam...its free?

I can handle others thinking a little differently and I'm not saying you cant have your own opinion but I don't condone people who try to make the developers slow development just because for some reason they decided they don't want to use steam but still want to be part of every bloody update without using steam because then it is affecting me since it means that the game wont release its updates as soon as possible since they have to reconfigure everything cutting into development time just because you want it DRM-Free because you don't like steam for whatever reason I'm fine with those who CANT have steam for this reason or another since they aren't choosing to slow down development but I don't appreciate those who just don't want to use steam but can that then choose to slow down development because they want to be part of every update but don't want to use the most efficient method of doing so. I don't have a problem with your choice not to use steam as long as you aren't trying to force the developers to slow the progress of the game just because YOU don't want to use steam.

although I vote for option 2 as I have said before as long as the DRM-free updates at the beginning of each stage and when there is a large important update so it doesn't slow development down too much but only because I realize that their are people who aren't being selfish but actually cant use steam and I don't want to leave them out of the beta if they really want to be part of it just because they are victim to unfortunate circumstances.

Some computers cant handle steam and therefor they couldn't use steam its not about whether or not its free

I'd say go with option 3 (don't know that much though, just saying because I've got steam lol) Can't wait! hopefully beta will be out soon!

Unless you can come up with an easy updater for the non-steam version I would go with option 3.

I'd definitely like to see the beta done through steam, as long as a DRM-free version is released later down the line by release.
