Steam please! I don't care too much about the drm free. But I know it's important to a lot of people, I think Stage 2-3 of beta, or even release should have drm free option. :giggle:

I vote for option 3, it seems like the best way to run the beta so you can spend less time preparing updates and more time making them.

Yeah the presentation is kind of telling.

"1 really sucks for us, but if you want it.."
"2 also sucks, but I guess we could do it."
    "3 is really great."

    "Which one do you want?"

But at least they're keeping it honest, and even if they've already got their hearts set on #3, asking for community opinion is a great gesture.

The steam first option is good, I've done a few beta's through steam and the auto update between builds is good.

Out of all of those option 3 looks the best. Helps the Game and Helps the Players the most

Is there a poll or something? :boo: I think the best option for all type of players will be option 1, unfotunatelly, is true that option 1 will be a pain in the glass for the Devs.

Also, Molly, forget about GBA port, we want a Game Boy Color port! (and we want your love too :iswydt:(joke(well not exactly)))

I'm totally in support of Option 3. I don't have a problem with Steam, and use it frequently. I know others do, so I'm glad there will be a DRM free version that doesn't use Steam.
And as they've said, 3 isn't even saying there won't be a DRM free version. Just that said version is pushed back. Because, given the way their updates have gone, it seems like
the game goes through some drastic changes pretty frequently. I think that at least for the first couple months it should stay on steam, so updates are easier to handle and they
can focus more on the game! Once some of the initial and likely nasty bugs are out, and it gets cleaned up some, they can have time to juggle two versions. I don't know if they
should wait fully until Beta Stage 2 to put out the DRM free version, but certainly not within the first few weeks to a month! The beta is just going to get far too many patches in
    that time.

    I choose number three.

And who wouldn't like Steam?! They have sales all the time!

you say this but you must realize that if people were to truly crack down on pirating games, music, movies, and other things, over half the social media websites would fry, every torrent site both for legal and illegal things would be shut down, and youtube would vanish from existence over a child singing her favorite song. while i do believe pirating games and such is wrong, its one of the things our current internet has grown to need to keep from reverting back to black screens and green 001001010111011001 pages.

I agree with number 3. People who don't like Steam can deal with it for a while when things are in beta or they can choose not to. Use Steam as a launching pad not as a platform.

Not all games work in that manner though. Say you bought the new Thor and you rip it to your computer so you can put it on your phone. There's no way that software will be able to tell that you own your movie. Same thing if you torrent Thor because you don't have a means of ripping it. That's why many movie companies do blanket cease and desist DMCA claims knowing that they couldn't enter into litigation anyway (too expensive a gamble if the person you take action against actually owns the licenses).

I'll take Frequent Steam with a side of Less Frequent DRM-Free. It'll be a bit easier on you guys and it'll be a bit more fair. I think it's a good compromise, but its all up to you guys.

I'm not normally active on the forums(Although I check the website every day or so for an update, lol) but I feel this is an important enough thing to comment on. -Option one is completely not feasible. You guys work your asses off as it is and I'd hate to see the game suffer because a small group(I only say small group because I've seen the majority of Starboundians vote for option 3) decides they hate steam. Yes, there are things to hate but in this case the benefits outweigh the negatives.
-I also believe that option two is a terrible idea for players who want to play the beta together. It would force players who want to play with their friends to either install steam(For those haters out there :p) or revert to older versions to succumb to the non-steam community.
-I also see problems with option three as it has half the problem option two had. It forces DRM free players to use steam(at the start) which I do admit is unfortunate but it seems like it is the lesser of the three evils here.
I know you guys will pick the right choice.

    P.S. I vote 3. :p

steam please, I'm from Brazil and the way but easy to purchase games, is that platform, they greatly facilitate payment, because if we do not have direct download many payment options as it is in U.S. dollars and steam ja converts monetary

Liking option 3, seems the most logical for you guys at Chucklefish, and easiest for us players to update and track updating. For the players that don't like steam, or can't use it, they'll just have to deal with missing out a bit until the initial release, but I think its safe to say we can all deal with it, whether its Steam or not.
