I totally have to wait for this game, because they aren't giving it to us yet... I find it entertaining to watch all the people beg for games such as this. I have purchased many indie games, many of which I still am waiting patiently for much like Starbound. What I find most entertaining is how people seem to get bent out of shape over the confusion of some between "beta" and "playing" a game. How else do you find a bug but to "play" a game. Those who know what "beta" means get over yourselves, and those who don't look it up on Wikipedia. I will apologize right now to both sides, because I have been on both sides. I thought when I became an adult life would get easier and less complicated somehow.. lol was I wrong!

Wikipedia isn't a valid source, because anyone with an account can change the information... T.T

I read a thread earlier today that might hint people with big YouTube communities could get a copy of the game to do a video on, instead of the 64,711 potential beta testers.
I am also aware that releasing a beta to somebody with such a huge following is just another way to commit suicide especially when its a beta and bugs are hiding everywhere.
Outside testing has been proven to have better bug detecting results than in dev bug testing.

Why not release the game indiscriminately and hope one of the 64,000+ who have pre-ordered the beta and one of them who has a big Youtube channel does a video?
Of-course that's if marketing is that important to you an indie company, its not like you guys made 1.5 million on pre-orders without something for your backers to play with. I would say that's a win on its own.

See these people are not going to look for bugs, and if they did you don't want them to find bugs and then show the world with many who can see this as a first impression.
People like me who were paid to beta test video games for four years, will do a much better job than TotalNarcissism, and BadiePie.

These people will drop the game after one or two videos because its their job to do different games constantly, they don't have the time or will waste their time to focus primarily on your game unless you pay them to.

If your willing to go that far when the community will to do the same job but for free, go ahead.
    It's your game.

Now frankly I don't care either way what you guys do.
I have been feeding on fourm drama since I registered, and its delicious.
The few posts I have made involved people either liking me, or coming up with absurd arguments to counter mine, which frankly doesn't hide their bias either.

So I gave my voice as a past professional, you know what I will be will doing in the meantime.
Lets hope its not me reading a sad article on Pc Gamer one day.

I say they give the game to youtubers and to everyone else on the same day. The big name youtubers will review tha game because they got it for free and because many people WILL be searching for Starbound videos, it helps their own channels. Meanwhile the game keeps the word-of mouth it already have and many more youtubers will make videos just because they like the game.

If the devs want video reviews for marketing, there is no actual need to keep the game off the hands of people that already bought it.

A little tiresome seeing people who are internet famous getting free rides months in advanced just to pump up preorders.

If its in a state that can be shipped to someone with the express intention of showing it off then its in a state for mass bug bashing.

Wikipedia is usually good enough, you can always fact check the content of the page to see if it holds water. (A good page should have source content at the bottom)

If you want a really horrific counterpart to wikipedia then you should try out conservapedia. That's a wiki I wouldn't call "valid" in anything other then :poo:.

Besides "everyone with an account can make changes" it is true, however there are moderators at wikipedia to (try to) keep nonsense// vandalism // retards down to a minimum.

Regarding beta beggars// or "I'm entitled to beta, give it to me now, the world (my world) will end soon, if I don't get beta, I want beta wah wah wah" they should be tazed in their :cookie: parts, and then contained into a quarantine area until such time they have learned to be patient.

( I wonder if there is a secret society of trolls, that goes around complaining about how their recent purchase (for a product that's not yet complete) in some way entitles them to get the product before it's done. )

If you're referring to the insomnia event, or anything else for that matter, it's wrong. The minute the beta is ready for public testing we get it, youtubers are free to get it if they like, maybe the team will give them a copy, but when the beta is out, it's out, there is no early access for youtubers or anything like that.

Youtubers and attendees at Insomnia WILL get a sneak peak to play a demo, if the beta is ready by insomnia, they'll get the beta, but we will to.

It isn't about the Insominia event, it's about their early statement that some youtube celebs like Totalbiscuit would get the game before the people that made preorders.

There was a thread before about it, and some staff confirmed that they will give the game to "some people with the ability to help get the word out" shortly before it is out.

The thing is there is no logical marketing explanation on giving the beta to Youtubers first an later to the backers. You don't lose sales by doing that. Some people in that thread parroted "It's basic marketing" like a dogma, without stopping for a bit and think about the situation.

I'm not mad about the late release. I don't care if they release it on December 31. I'm just saying that giving it to youtubers first instead of everybody (so the youtubers get them too) it's pointless.

I have no intention to start any bad blood discussion. It's my first day in the forum and it seems like a rough topic over here. I just stated my opinion and felt sad when the thread was closed without anyone explaining exactly how private release would be better than public release.

It was also locked might I add, and no real good explanation was given.
I thought indie companies were supposed to be on the side of the users, and not pander to the worst common denominator of the game industry.

Is it so bad that people just get what they paid for?
I mean honestly they can do both, doing select favoritism is what is pissing everyone off.
    Me included

The whole thing can be summed up this way.
"Please give us a copy of the game first when its ready, then give it to the youtubers."
I hope we aren't pulling a leg or an arm by just asking for what was promised to us.

We'll have to see wont we? You're all jumping the gun to rage on the developers they said that a while ago and their opinions may have changed. Heck, until the pre-order, they didn't even plan on running a public beta, the devs like to change their minds. Even if they do give it to youtubers, if they want to try and get some viral marketing that way, let them, I honestly don't care, when I get the game, I get the game, and I'm happy with that.
