guys guys guys, stop with the youtube commentators, they make EVERYTHING mainstream, which sadly is a terrible thing for lesser known games. look at minecraft, that was great till everyone and their mother knew about it. you just shouldn't go recommending starbound to MASSIVE youtube celeberties willy nilly, it'll ruin the nice community we have with impatient 10 year olds screaming for free beta keys. do you really want to pay that price so pewdiepie or whoever can play the game for you?

as far as we know the youtube big shots might already be backing the game, i know toby turner does some terraria stuff and with starbound being in the same genre he might try it. it's just a matter of time before we get a wave of rude people anyways.

EDIT: i guess what i'm trying to say is, every bit counts.

I hope this gets done soon. Given how much money they've gotten, they should be able to do full time, right? I'm anticipating this game more than any other, more than any I've anticipated since I was a kid. And since I have absolutely nothing else to do but wait until the game is released (I've been applying for work, but the only people who have even hinted at having some vague desire to hire me is the government, and it takes /months/ to process applications) I hope it'll all be done soon so I have something to keep busy with.

The sooner that more popular YT personalities (YogsCast, Pewdiepie, PaperbatVG, TotalBiscuit) get their hands on the game, the sooner we get an influx of people shouting about this and that. Pewdiepie is probably the worst for making indie titles into trash with his stupid bro army. It's just a wave of people with no interest in the game or its developers, only in a guy they saw play the game.

Please tell me what the problem with something becoming considered main stream? In what way will YOUR starbound experience change if two billion people play it as opposed to one hundred thousand? I can help you out there: It won't. It's not a collective server.

On that note i think it's actually mentalities like that which are worse for the health of a game. I used to play a game called Infantry Online, but it's very exclusive attitude player base scared off any and all newcomers until it was JUST the group of 20-30 people playing, then they started falling off one by one from work or whatever then the game no longer exists. It ressurected a bit ago but it's still the exclusive group of friends playing who don't greet anyone new warmly at all, as well as targeting those trying to learn with the highest ranked items so no one has a chance nor wants to try. Ask any developer and they will tell you they would rather greet everyone with open arms and have their community do the same. Minecraft is no worse today because many people play it. In fact we now have very intelligent and creative modders who make the game that much better.

So instead of putting on the thick rimmed glasses and telling all those who come in after release that you liked the game BEFORE it was mainstream and act like they don't matter or lessen the game's quality, try being accepting to anyone who wants to give the game a try. Believe it or not, the time/date in which someone hears about a game has no impact on whether they are fun to play with or not.

If 2 billion people play starbound, something would be amiss. Also, more people is good; more "Bro army" and the massive influx of middle schoolers that ruined the Cod, minecraft, and numerous other game communities is not good.

TB is ok, how do you think Terraria got off its feet? And how about the Yogscast and minecraft? The thing is, Starbound doesn't really need more advertisment, especially with the Game commentator crowd.

On the flip side of the coin, if there is a massive influx of interest, pre-orders go up and the Devs can spend more time coding in new and (more) interesting features. Yes, the forums might get busier but the game experience will remain the same. In fact the game experience will probably improve as way more people will be finding bugs, adding mod content, suggesting improvements and throwing their cash at Chucklefish to code all the above.

I'm all for a larger community. It just makes the game last longer no matter how you look at it.

This needs to be said, sorry if it offends anyone,
but as someone going into indie development myself, this is how I see it.

To be fair, there is too much pickiness in indie communities (and even AAA communities) these days. Understand that the developers aren't being funded by big publishers, they need all the publicity and customers as they can get, so when their community starts crying about fan type A being too whiney and fan type B being too young, how do you think they feel? Think about the developers, not yourselves, the community will be fine if we get any number of different types of new fans, you don't have to interact with them, but they will buy/play the game if they like it, that's all that matters.

I really didn't mean to offend anyone with this, I understand where you're coming from, many fans of youtubers can be annoying, but we can't be worried about that if it's going to help chucklefish and starbound be successful!
