Regarding pixels and the pixel requirements..

To start this thread i would like to say that i kinda like the current system, but, some of these prices for items are insane. Mostly, it takes a lot of work to find certain resources, like diamond. I managed to find enough ore for 8 refined diamonds by getting to an asteroid field and cheesing it. And after a while, i noticed i had enough for a copper pick (i was using stone for a long time, just started playing, didn't know much), and one thing lead to another, and i had a gold pick. I was thinking, damn, that escalated quickly. After a bit of mining, i saw that i had a lot of platinum and diamonds, so i went back to my ship, and checked the requirements. Then i noticed, 800 for a platinum pick, i thought "that's a lot, but oh well". I made it, and then moved on to the diamond one. 1600 pixels. To cut this short, i personally think that there is a lot of grinding to be done, considering each monster drops 10 pixels if anything, and sometimes a bit more, but rarely, and dungeon/village containers can't really do it for you. I really don't like this extreme grinding that needs to be done in order to progress. If i wanted to grind i would play an MMO. But other than that, the game is great. Fun and fulfilling. Also sorry for the long post. Felt like i needed to be more detailed about my problems.

Get a refinery when you can, it helps greatly with pixel requirements. Also, those costs are nothing compared to drill costs imo.

The refinery helps immensly with this, especialy when you need to make drills. For instance, every diamond ore turns into 100 pixels, and when you start asteroid mining this can scale up rather fast. getting near the same amount of pixels from combat is just grindy, though. This is pretty much the only reason I was able to make a diamond drill, and actually makes the 3D printer usable for reprinting things you find in dungeons for decorations

I often find myself with a surplus of pixels just mining deep down to get enough ore for the next tech upgrade, never solely relying on mobs for pixels, although I do kill everything.

  6. Make multiple refineries and smelt all the diamonds, gold, platinum and silver that you can find.
It gets super easy later on, just focus on the things you need.

Not all monsters drop 10 pixels though, it seems to be a bit random, they seem to drop 100+ pixels too from time to time, not sure if the chance for this scales with the tier though.

I've noticed in the higher tiers monsters will drop 100+ pixels on death, but they still drop just 10 pixels way more often, or nothing.

How many times had you died up to this point?

The idea of NEEDING pixels to progress is silly. I've been playing A Link Between Worlds lately, and while you don't NEED pixels for 90% of the game, you can rent items instead of purchasing them. In fact, for one of the first dungeons you can do in the Dark World, you don't need any items at all.

I hate, hate, HATE, needing money to purchase boss spawners.

And just saying "Get a Refinery" is basically just saying "Go Grind some ores".

And whats the point of crafting weapons when 90% of the ones you find are simply better?

Getting pixels is not hard nor is it time consuming. Go mine for an hour or so and you will have plenty.

I think some of the problem is that we're still Holiday Eventing.
I didn't have this many problems with early tier pixels before the mobs gave me spirit instead of pixels.

That being said, the easiest early tier pixels come from finding a dungeon, preferably an Avian one, and ransacking the place. One full Avian tomb easily nets me 4k+ pixels. The problem is FINDING the dungeons, which got harder for me since I realized how much like using a walkthrough the Unified Coordinates sheet was. >.>

Make the Unusual Gift Boxes with holiday spirits, they give a ton of pixels.

Mining for an hour doesn't sound very fun.

Run along the surface of a planet hitting the ground. You will have pixels... EVRYWHAR.

I usually end up doing it by accident.

I did this based on the same suggestion elsewhere, and for 100 small boxes I got about 500 pixels.
Not even close to making up for the pixels not dropped.

I normally use the large boxes because they tend to drop as much as what you got within 10 or 15 along with halfway decent weapons. If that still fails, just go to a higher sector and kill a bunch there. Exploitation at its best

Once you get the refinery, you will have more pixels than you know what to do with, I think I have around 120 5k voxels right now...

people are suggesting using a refinery, which is fine if you just need a few more pixels, but what they are forgetting is that mining for ores = grinding, i would say that i think the pixel cost for picks/drills is fine because they are important/valuable to the game, so they need a cost, but for everything else the pixel cost is too high, people suggesting using the refinery obviously dont want to build anything with their ores or don't associate the hours spent mining with the refining process
