I wonder if Re-Logic is gonna ask for money again when they release Terraria 1.2. It's a big update you know????

it's emotional and not well thought out, but that doesn't mean you should just toss it out the window

people have a right to be upset about DLC and its a good thing to be upset about. DLC tends to be really annoying, especially when you buy a game that you didn't think was ever going to have dlc.

I won't mind it as long as its well thought out and they're extremely careful about it, but I assume they are going to be. The only problem I can see is this could really lock out a bunch of people in multiplayer depending on how they handle it.

Say person A has "Super Mega Expansion DLC" and Person B just has "Regular Dumb ol Starbound" and person A says "HEY LETS PLAY TOGETHER"

is person B going to be locked out of the server? Or a planet? Are they not going to be able to play with their friend because of it? Who knows right now, but it's the kind of thing we should consider.

I'VE GONE ON A TANGENT. They'll probably make it not that bad

Chillaxe people. Devs are only discussing a remote possibility.

I am not throwing it out the window, the devs weighed in on DLC and no one actually seems to be listening to what they are saying or just take it way out of context.

There is no DLC, there is no plans for DLC and the mention of DLC came about from a misquote to start with.
IF there was ever to be a paid DLC then as to quote Tiy, "t will be for a massively substantial change at a cost that justifies the work" Which is in reference to expansion packs, the forefather of DLC
But again, that was to expand for people asking, a passing whim on a possibility that isn't even currently a possibility

I agree your points are good ones that should be addressed, however they are better addressed when this fictional DLC is announced, not when it's a non existent issue.

Lets just say they did plan one, we would know plenty of time before hand to weigh in the matter, but right now we would just be beating a dead horse with another dead horse.

    Things people need to realise:
    1. Molly's hot
    2. News such as PC gamer spruce a bunch of stuff up
    3. Devs are peeps too, with bills and what not.
    4. DLC's not the end of the world, and we can trust Chucklefish will do it right
    5. The beta, let alone the full game hasn't even been released yet, who gives a potato about DLC atm
    6. Speaking of beta, Chucklefish have not said it's coming out tomorrow, so stop expecting it to
    7. Chucklefish are not EA, (a.k.a money sucking worms)

Take a chill pill, Starbound community!

I wish people would stop giving EA flak for just fullfilling it's wider responsibilities. EA is a corporation, so aside from having to pay its much higher bills and having to feed hundreds of people it also has actual shareholders and investors to make happy with a steady flow of money.

As much as I dislike EA (and I haven't bought a game from them since.. Dead Space 2, I think*), they do still suffer from this setup. They have to keep those shareholders/investors happy, and most of the time those people don't care about the product and it's all about the business. That's where the fault generally is (like with all corporations, the backers and management), especially where they have to push the developers of the games too much because the shareholders/investors are getting antsy.

*Bearing in mind this isn't because of the games themselves, I don't buy into the whole "EA is evil and has ruined games". Then again, I don't understand a lot of the hate these days. Like how people jump from "it's a buggy release of a decent game, because the publishers pushed the devs a bit too hard to release the game, mixed with some questionable business choices by the management" to "OMG this game is shit, worst thing ever, they're EVIL!" (eg. SimCity).

I wish that were the case. I don't think they deserved the "Most evil company in the world" title given the kind of crap some companies get away with, but they have a bad reputation for far more than smart business.

Wish I understood the hate myself and thus some time ago I simply stopped caring about what other gamers think as usually my opinions tend to differ drastically from what other gamers thing (For one I liked DA II better than I did DA:O).

I'm fine even with paid DLC later, if it's huge content update. Better if it's free, but even indie developers need to eat (and hire security guards because us stalkers.)

I hate "pay to get horse armor" style dlc's. Seems chucklefish don't like them either, so I'm happy. Anyways it's a fun community, argue about dlc during alpha. Priceless.

I was under the impression that the primary responsibility of EA was in producing products that customers want to buy, thus also satisfying those shareholders and investors as well.

EA has been finding out, and hopefully are taking the lesson on board, that you can't just try to keep shareholders happy by shafting your customers when your entire business relies on those customers. But then, I'm betting that they haven't learnt a thing.

Juice Box doesn't want to go into an EA rant. Keep the communtiy clean, so were both wrong... k?

That is an acceptable compromise Sir Juice Box.

  18. Dr.Narwhal

    Dr.Narwhal Big Damn Hero

I understand. The point of my post was to give the developers my opinion that this "worthwhile" dlc is not something I want since a lot of the comments on this post are giving of a I would be fine with dlc feel. The problem for me is playin with my friends which I have already stated. Thanks for trying to help though:)

Simcity is probably the one EA game Juice Box likes... idk, Juice Box is wierd.

I'm quite sure there WILL be big free updates, but the aforementioned DLC content will be much bigger than the normal content updates. In addition, the DLC are not yet in planning, which can mean that they might not appear until a year after release.
