Refine Slime to make things

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by Drake-Husky, Jan 1, 2014.

?

Do you think that the slime could use a retexture to something less gross?

maybe future use as slime swords or used as a poison to make weapons poison element? as if poison element weapons were not powerful as is lol

Maybe like, more poison damage per second, less base damage. or something. idk. I'm just thinking mod-wise. No way the devs would actually put any of this in the game.

Oh you. The bait is strong within you.

Anyway, you didn't understand me. The whole point I was trying to get across is that this is incredibly unnecessary and this little feature you want will only help your personal preferences. A mod is implemented when an Author feels like this will be downloaded by many, many people. You're asking for someone to go out of their way to make a mod that will only please you.

    Please, think a little.

"The bait is strong within you" -- it's an idea, you don't have to like it, and if you don't, then move on. Please try to refrain from being a cunt because you don't like this idea for a mod.
If you haven't noticed, personal preferences are kinda what mods are all about. Maybe not all of them, but most of them. Changes that people thought would be neat to put into the game, that other people just so happen to like aswell. Some people may be in for the downloads, but those people are usually the modders that specifically went out to make a change to the game that people have been asking for.
I'm not asking anybody to make this a mod, I'm throwing around ideas, and maybe eventually, I might get around to making it, myself.

As I said, if this isn't an idea for a mod that you would want, smack that downvote button up top (if you haven't already) and move on with your life. Thanks.

No matter how hard you try to backpedal, you're not convincing anyone. Yes, you did ask for people to mod this. Do you want me to quote you, really? I guess I have to spoon feed you.

Right there. You did ask for someone to make this mod, whether you chose to keep it obvious or subtle, this point still stands. And if you didn't mean this, you need to pick your words more carefully and learn to be precise with what you're asking. This argument is pointless because I already got my point across. No one is going to make this mod JUST because YOU asked for it, so learn to make mods and do it in your own time.

I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around the fact that you calling me a penguin is somehow an insult.

Personally, I enjoy the fact that slime is disgusting and nasty. It's slime - ooze, funk, crud, sludge, gunk! Stinking, sticky, squelching, squishing, damp, moist, rank, foul mucous! There's a reason why slime blocks and sewage blocks occur side-by-side! Real-life slime molds are all kinds of squick, and I'm kinda glad to see that reflected in Starbound.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing a less-disgusting gelatin-styled alternative to slime for building purposes. Perhaps you could even use the typical gross slime blocks to make this less-gross variety. Strictly player-made, no biomes of the stuff (except maybe as a sort of 'underground rainbow biome' - that would be neat).

    It's slime.
    Of course it's disgusting.

Just be glad there are no yellow-reddish bits scattered here and there yes?
Those caves could well have had a massive sinusitis, and it would suck for you.
Maybe some places are more viscous than others, and you get your feet stuck in there?

And how about a few giant bot flies (and what comes with them) hanging around?

Dear god what did i just type

Havent seen a "slime cave" yet, can anyone provide a picture of it so I can see how "disgusting" it is?

Yeah, we talked about this later in the forum. Said that it would be a better idea to refine slime into some sort of blank gelatin brick, then dye it with all those pretty much useless dyes you find everywhere.

Might as well have just copy/pasted this from the other comments that said the exact same thing. Jeez, I get it, the original idea was bad. xP

now that you changed the idea from making slime less slimy, to being able to use it to make something like gelatin
I think this would be a great idea and, personally, would probably never use it but I would love to have the option there

The idea is nice, and as you've said and as others have said, a great idea for a mod. I'll also throw in with agreement that it's not something needed for the main game, but I could see some of it or something similar happening.

There is some precedent for the concept (using biome-specific materials for crafting themed items). There are biomes that have themed chests with similarly themed blueprints in them (desert biomes with sandstone chests, containing blueprints for sandstone beds, chairs, etc, or toxic biomes with toxic chests (cool as hell btw) containing blueprints for toxic lamps). So a slime chest with blueprints for slime themed items could totally happen. We'll wait and see, and if the developers don't do it, maybe a good modder will pick up the idea.

As someone who mods several games and has discussions with modders of several games, let me tell you most modders make a mod for themselves more than the community. Many modders don't even release their product because people seem to have your view which many modders find repulsive and will make their mod private. A modder makes something they want, not what the player wants. If a modder wants to summon fire from the sky and knows how to code it, they do so. Sometimes they give us the PRIVILEGE of playing and enjoying their work, and if they agree with our ideas to improve THEIR mod, they take them and implement them.

They do NOT have an obligation to make something we like. Most mods do NOT make a profit. Most modders do NOT care for the opinions of the many, but instead for the small group who do enjoy it and enjoy the same things as the modder who made the mod. Modders do NOT work for you, they simply SHARE with you out of the goodness of their hearts.

"I don't make mods to make people happy, I make them because I enjoy the game but felt a particular feature was missing that could really improve the game play. If you don't like it shut up and go away. I make what I enjoy not what you want unless I want the same thing." -mDyio developer of the Tinker Constructs mod for Minecraft, during a live stream.

Have respect for the modders, respect what they do, and maybe a modder might see the idea and make it even if you do not care for it yourself because they like it.

I think gelatin blocks would be perfectly at home in a dessert biome. Think about it: Ice cream cone trees, gelatin terrain formations, gingerbread houses, gumdrop bushes, cake/cookie dirt, chocolate rock, and milk lakes.

Need something similar to "The Warp" for really outlandish biomes.
    Anomaly stars.
The planets around these stars could be weird theme planets.
Perhaps where Christmas stuff can go with Dessert worlds, Fairy lands, Hell, Heaven. etc.
