Redesigning a Character After Creation

Might have missed it, but is there any information about whether or not this particular feature will be in the game?

Being able to redesign your character after you've started is always something I've always felt was sadly missing in most games like this. I shouldn't have to reset my character to get a hair cut. Especially when there's cloning.

Should not be too hard to make a "plastic surgery" machine that you can use for this.

 

That's what I'm saying.

It's just all too common for developers to completely ignore this and say "WELL THAT'S THE CHOICE YOU MADE DEAL W/ IT" or some similarly poor excuse.

 

I definitely saw a dev comment about this at one point. Not in the beta, but maybe an appearance changer machine in the full release. If not, someone will certainly make a mod for the community.

 

I agree with the fact that I'd like to change my character after awhile. Why would I want to progress in a game and then not be able to change something as simple as skin/hair color and hair style?

 

Would be kinda funny if you could terraform entire planets, but not shave this goatee/overly long beak/tendril you got sick of.

Anyways, I recall Tiy mentioning some ingame device to change appearance. Not sure about gender an definitely sure there won't be no race changing, but appearance change including colour altering is just simply guaranteed to be added!

 

I see no reason not to have a Barbershop or the like for changing Hairstyle & Haircolor considering such things can be done even in the 20th Century.

Also, it would be cool if there were Contact Lenses that could go in one's Eyes as a Vanity Item to make the Eyes look cool/freaky/weird/awesome... like for example... Glowie Contact Lenses that glow outwards without affecting the Wearer's Vision so ya could perhaps, for example, have Movie Monster-like Red Glowie Eyes without being a Glitch! (I personally would love Contact Lenses for Hylotl so they could have a Eye Color other than Red...)

 

We will always have third party tools to do so, but it would be nice if the devs put in something that wouldn't be so troublesome to use.

 

Would like this, probably not let the player change race again, but at least change everything else.

 

If I recall correctly, the devs said there would be a device that would allow you to change most of your appearance, barring of course your sex and race.

 

That'd be nice. Sex and race would be pushing it too far though so they wouldn't put that in (or at least I hope not)

If we were to push it really hard you could maybe have a sex changer but to me, that wouldn't make sense.

 

Why not?

We've already got cloning, highly-advanced genetics, plasma and laser weapons, space travel (which is much more complicated than people tend to think--and people think it's complicated in the first place).

A sex change would be a simple matter of swapping out a few squishy bits, doing some body sculpting, and swapping out a few chromosomes. Nothing our space-faring friends couldn't handle. Plus, consider that Florans and Glitch are more-or-less genderless in the first place. (Florans outright stated to be hermaphroditic or similar, iirc. Glitch are robots--plug and play!)

Granted, if they do implement sex changes, I really hope there's no gendered armor.

Race-changing, on the other hand, would be a little more complicated and there are gameplay balancing reasons for it not to be possible.

 

Race Changing is already designed to be pointless via Racial Armor being wearable by all Races, it's just a matter of how much or little trouble it'll be getting the appropriate Recipes.

Gender Changing is too Creepypasta for my liking, personally...

 

There should be no race changing. But come on people really? any opposition to sex changes is complete BS. Its possible to do it now a days, why wouldn't super high tech future peoples be able to do it? Sex and other features should be able to be changed whether it be an NPC you hire to do it, or a machine you can build yourself.

It's not possible. Sure a man can get fake boobs but he still has a penis. If it's possible for a guy to get a vagina (never heard of it) you still wouldn't be able to reproduce.

 

How is opposition to sex change BS? It's not like that means I hate gays just because I think sex change would be too weird too have in Starbound.
