This is such a poor argument, yet one that's still extremely popular around here for some reason. How is it entitled to want a product you already payed for? If anything, crowdfunding your game and then continually changing what preordering gets you and neglecting communication with your supporters is entitled.

Yup, this is my method for this game now... and it is working just fine.

I check the forums on Friday for any news, and go back to playing Terarria.

speaking of Terraria... I've got a minecart suicide ride to plan... until next week, cya.

I have to say that I, too, have grown... sceptical about the team. However, they did move to London in order to work more efficiently.
Now that they moved and that they are done with the paperwork and red-tape, they should be able to work on the game quicker and better than before.
I have some hope that they learned from their mistakes (because they made quite a few, especially when it came to communication) and that they will be able to deliver the game they envisioned in the first place, now that they work in a better environment, with optimal conditions.
But, starting now, the following year will be crucial. It's now or never.

Meanwhile the rest of us are enjoying the game. Maybe next time don't pay for an unfinished game? Seriously, what's the point of these threads? It's done when it's done and they'll give updates when they feel like it.

You seems to be very sensitive. Those tweets weren't anything special? When I saw the tweet about 500 hours I thought the guy that asked for a refund was an idiot (. People aren't entitled to refunds and I hope no one gets one.

How is that a poor argument? Sure. You dont like what you preordered? Ask for your money back. But if you're sitting on 200+ hours of playtime and telling me you didn't get your moneys worth? You want a comparison? Last week I bought a sandwitch. A type of sandwitch i usually really enjoy. I was at a new store iv never tried and the sandwitch i got was -different-. I ate it anyway. Is it okay if I ask for my money back now? :p

EDIT: I could have just tasted the sandwitch but I did not. I ate the whole thing. I Kinda enjoyed it.

Guys I wouldn't worry about it, I know an abandoned game when I see it. Hell I bought Cubeworld :wut: .
They are moving to their new office. It's kinda hard to code and update stuff when you are moving to your new living space, and setting up the office.
I would give them a month and a half IN TOTAL to get back up to full chugging speed.

The communication is kinda.. not on par with what's expected of an indie team at the moment, so let's think up a few ways they can fix that.

My suggestion is that each member of the dev team makes a note somewhere of one thing they're working on at the end of work (or at dinner, lunch, at some time) every day. Just a quick few words about what's taking up their time. Then, at the end of the week, everyone's notes get collected up and thrown at Molly or someone so they can post a weekly update.

Now, this would give the community weekly updates that show what's actually happening at CF so people aren't left imagining the devs playing twister all over the office and dancing to the Spice Girls or whatever the depraved minds of this community come up with. It would take up approximately 10 seconds of time a day for each dev to write their quick note, perhaps 5 minutes to collect it up, tops half an hour to collate it and remove any accidental references to secret sauce, and then it gets posted. It could be just that bare bones, just the devs stating what they're working on for the past week, and perhaps once each week they also each add what they will be working on next week.

Yes there will be things that get mentioned time and again, yes there will be things that multiple people are working on at the same time, but who cares? It's communication, it's straightforward, it's not a time sink, and it's from the devs (almost) straight to the community.

Whether CF decide to do the above or not, I do think some framework should be put in place to enable info to flow from the team to the public in a more streamlined manner. Something that tells everyone on the team that this is where they write what they wanna tell the public and this is when they write it and then someone else comes along to scoop it up and vomit it all over our smiling update-hungry faces. Right now it feels as though there is no framework in place, so there's a whole lot of information and no proper conduit for it.

Development was delayed because they only had one build server, a personal machine under control of one of the devs that was moving, and Omni had to spend two weeks duplicating the setup.

It just goes to show how 'indie' they really are being despite collecting 4 million from their pre-order page alone.

I think a small, regular, weekly update on all social media platforms Cf uses wouldn't be too much to ask. At least it would be something to quell the masses.

assuming I spent anywhere near that amount of time playing.
I have a comparison too; you order a set of tires for your car that are advertised to last 50,000 miles. 6 months later, you get one tire and it wears out after 10,000. You could say, "that's ok, even though I did'nt get what was advertised, to me it was still more than worth it, and anyone who is unsatisfied is an entitled jerk" but most people would probably want their money back

The problem with that analogy is that people have been given what was advertised. This is exactly that. It's not finished yet, but it's not been abandoned. It's a mysterious grey area somewhere in the middle. Some people see it as "this isn't the game I thought it would be" and others see it as "it's too early to say whether this will be the game I thought it would be". The former get pissed off, the latter get called fanboys by the former, the latter call the former trolls and whiners, and we all know what goes on from that point. The bottom line is that it's just about perception right now. Look on the bright side or don't, but you really can't say that CF have lied or misled people.

I am genuinely curious about that. I purchased through steam (in mid December?), after some research. I would like to know about that, not sure it's entirely on topic here, but would appreciate a PM.

I was one of those people.. I've seen people say that the release dates were changed but, from memory and from looking at the archived pages, no solid release date was ever given; only an estimate. Since it can't be about the release dates, how were we lied to?

The first link isn't exactly clear. What's he confirming for 2013? It doesn't say that's for full release or beta release. I CBA to read the entire thread but the gist of it seems to be that people don't like it when things take longer than they expect them to, but those expectations are more down to the individuals than the dev team. The second link gives an estimate, and the third link doesn't say final release it says release, that could mean final or beta.

You'll probably say I'm arguing semantics here, but my point is that no solid release date was ever given, only estimates. Estimates are just that; they are not fact. That aside, you cannot set a solid final release date for a game or any other software and end up with something good unless you are exceptionally lucky. Rushing things out in order to try and meet a date rather than when they're finished is what's ruined the game industry with the larger publishers. What you end up with is buggy crap that fails to live up to basic standards of software, let alone promises made during development.
You simply cannot put a timeframe on development any more than you can put a timeframe on digging a hole in a random location. Bits of the process will go by smoothly, and you can frame those, but at some point you'll hit something unexpected like a giant layer of granite and you just won't be able to speed up the digging. The software equivalent of that granite is a bug.
Some bugs are quick and easy to fix, whereas some are mammoth tasks that can take weeks. Others seem like quick and easy fixes but then turn into mammoth tasks that can take weeks to fix. This is the nature of dev and everyone is just gonna have to bloody well put up with it because it's laws of physics type stuff.

Now, if people wanna be pissed off with the waiting then that's fine, but expecting CF to either bend time or put out a crappy product is not fine. I'd like to know just what exactly it is that people want. Do you want a crappy game? Because that's really the only viable option here if you demand solid release dates. The alternative would have been almost absolute silence from the dev team and no beta whatsoever, just straight to release once it's done. Now you may have preferred that, but again the only way that could happen is if they bend time.
