A look at things to come -

My girlfriend is an artist, and also enjoys doing the same stuff as me, she is interested in making a custom ship for starbound, she is a far better free-hand and painter than me but has no clue how to make the block map, so we are working together to make something unique for Starbound based off of Firefly, her first mock-up of the ship is linked below. This will probably be one of the last things released as it will take a lot longer to do the art for.

a.) Too big for my taste.
b.) Don't waste your time doing a virus thing in the future. They're jpeg and raw text files, they can't CANT CANT STOP ARGUING THEY CANNOT contain viruses.

There are ways to hide viruses in images or to make viruses seem like an image.

First of all, that's a pretty cool virus article.

However, as the article clearly states, that bitmap image does nothing if the user treats it like a bitmap image. The virus can only execute if the file is run as a batch script.

In this sense, virtually any file can be a virus, but only if you're willing to run it as a batch file, which is virtually impossible to do by accident.

My statement stands: executable files may be viruses, if you don't execute a file it can't be a virus (jpeg, raw text).

While im no virus expert my logic around how electronics and computers work tells me that @Med is right
And yes, the article is cool, but i also have to say.. People are paranoid, and what @Rawr_Dinosaur is doing will gain the trust of people, such as they will be more likely to download the files

 

Can you do this with the other races too? this looks to be the perfect size of a ship that I imagine; the starbase is much much too big, and I can't mod ships myself.

 

When I get some spare time I will probably start working on the other races, once I have fine tuned the hitbox it should be easier to port over any of the other ships, but might still take some time! and I don't know what race to start with.

 

Avian seems to be the most used, and then Floran, Glitch, Apex, Hylotl.

 

Try making something unique, rather than just expanding racial ships. Just make one single awesome ship that looks nothing like the rest of them.

Also, you forgot about windows.

 

This looks really good, I'll probably be using this after the wipe.

2 small little things though

the black/grey line where you go to the upper and lower levels is off-center
That glass bubble thing feels kinda weird.

Would those be easy to edit/remove for me if i have 0 knowledge on how to actually edit ships?

 

Yea you can remove them easily if you have GIMP, I'll look into the grey lines.

 

This ship looks awesome. Only recommendation I have is that you make the area with the teleporter 1 more "block" lower. That way we can run platforms over it flush with the next level. If any of that makes sense

 

Hello. I watched your stream the other night and I think the ship is glorious, exactly what I was looking for. However, as you mentioned, it did have a few mismatches, I did my best to fix all of them because I plan on using this ship and I have a bit of an OCD. I hope you don't mind, but if you do, let me know and I'll remove the picture.

Oh hey, an adfly link, I was hoping that this community wouldn't be plagued by these as well. Hopefully the official Chucklefish hosting site will not allow for adfly links and be smart like the Bukkit Forums were and ban that sort of thing when it was proven that adfly has a high chance of infecting people's PCs with malware.

For those not in the know, adfly does not actually check any of the ads they use on their services, all they care about is if they are being paid. So not only do you often get presented with ads for porn and other things that may not appropriate for everyone who is playing this game (and honestly should be be linked to on this forums in my honest opinion), but adfly is also known to be heavily targeted by those who spread malware and other harmful viruses since adfly does nothing to police their services, so it makes uploading so called "drive by infections" very easy, and as a note, this kind of infection is not stopped by ad blockers. You would not believe the amount of computers I have fixed in the past that were infected because of MC mod downloads.

Curse allows this kind of behavior in their MC community because they do not want the community to go elsewhere, it would eat into their user base and thus kill their own ad revenue, the Bukkit team however, after doing their own testing and confirmation, banned all use of adfly on their site since it was harming the end user.

I hope the Chucklefish devs keep this in consideration when they launch their official mod site, somewhat costly computer repair if you are not computer literate is not worth mere fractions of a penny.
