    Starbound Mod Idea

It’s been a few years that I have been invested in this game and I have always thought it could be more, there are somethings you can find in game or in workshop but there are many things that simply don’t exist not unless you change it…

The Byos section of the ship, whether vanilla or moded would include the player ship moving from one sector to another, occasionally boarding other vessels for visit or board hostile crafts and loot their belongings…

it would be nice to encounter more elaborate scenarios that makes space faring more risky and more elaborate.

    New Ship mechanics

Using vanilla or Mod Byos mechanics, you can distinguish how fast your vessel travels and arrange different modules that either preserve fuel or lower the ship mass but some percentage…

Why not a defense parameter as well

The Defense parameter works similar to ship modules, more turrets and guns you install on your ship more effective you will become to deter enemies from intercepting you, more over you can utilize other modules such as Stealth field generator, Fake Signature modules, or Electronic interference to mask your presence in a sector and avoid detection all together…

The Ship could suffer Hull damage as, well , I am not aware of whether or not that could be visualized in game but after a certain amount of damage is dealt, the ship will become inoperable and stationary… blocking any FTL jump out of the System but still retaining STL capabilities…

In order to repair the ship, Player would need to complete a series of Fetch Quests and provide Repair modules, Upgrade modules or simple ore and materials to repair the ship for travel,

Hull integrity could be more easily replenished by visiting a Station or after clearing a Hostile vessel, choosing to scuttle that vessel to repair your own…

Some similarity with Assassin’s creed Naval mechanic…

Furthermore, you will be able to visit Space anomalies that could either be beneficial or detrimental to your situation but never lethal or game threatening, more like hindrance or obstacles,

Sudden EMP bursts, Solar flares, Mine fields, Black holes, Ancient Relics, abandoned stations and as such… some you can disembark and explore and in some your ship would just suffer some status effects and nothing more.

    Piracy

There are many Vessels encountered while traveling ,while some friendly there are some other vessels that remain hostile, such as Pirates, remnants, Minikong, Avian etc.… these vessels are usually idle and will not engage the player’s ship,

If a player lacks sufficient Fire power (Deterrence) or fails to mask its signature, these vessels will attempt to intercept the player vessel and Ask for ransom…

Initially I was hoping a way they could actively try and breach your ship’s perimeter to try and kill you if you fail to provide them a ransom…

But judging with how you can basically die in your own Shipworld this could be a problem…

Perhaps by maybe creating a another world like your ship and have you warp to it and fight the enemies?

Either way as long as the ransom exists, STL is the only option and if you make it planet side, your assailants will warp down with you and try to subdue you ( you can give up) or kill you.

If they succeed in their Piracy act, your ship will suffer hull damage and may be disabled until repairs are done (STL) only.

Alternatively, you can disembark from your vessel to board them Directly and defeat them in their own ship (counter boarding),

There is only a problem of reasoning… the ransom should be manageable enough for players to easily pay off the blockade and if defeating the enemies is an option, they must be wielding powerful weapons that provides the player with a challenge and rewards outside from their reach, such as higher tier weapons, EPP augments, rare ores and etc.…

    Distress Signals

Lost Ships: Some ships are simply asking for direction, you can remotely or in person talk with the Captain and provide direction , given you have explored the said destination before hand, this would mean exploration is a more significant part of the play through and should probably take a few seconds to accomplish when you first arrive in a system any how.

Lost ships could be Colonizers, Researcher, Merchants or even faction vessels…

You can also find some looting relating to their ship type inside if you choose to visit and also claim a random reward from the captain.

Damaged Ships: some Vessels can’t continue their journey to a said planet, they may ask you to simply tow their vessel to their destination or nearest station for repairs…

Yet again, I don’t know if it’s possible for such random stranded Crew to warp onboard of your Vessel and warp out once you get them to their destination, you can always abort the mission and they will warp out of your ship.

The Trouble must worth something in the end of course and you can retrieve a reward such as Repair or upgrade module from the Captain…

Alternatively you can avoid all this and simply offer a repair module or upgrade module for them to patch their ships, for a bloated price that is…

Boarder Vessels: some Ships are blocked off pirates where they have breached the ship and nearly taken the ship, you can disembark and board these vessels and save the Crew from Captivity and then have a chance of recruiting some of the Crew as your own… or collect the reward from the captain…
