So there's the matter of all the different rock types underground that all drop Cobblestone. Chucklefish addressed this in an open stream, but I'll paste the relevant bits here...

    Well, here's my thought.

You know how we have "redundant" Glass Block recipes, since that can use normal Sand and Fine Sand? I'm completely down with there being "redundant" Cobblestone-based recipes in the same regard... but in the case of Cobblestone BRicks, and the various furniture pieces, the end results have a different look, even if only in color.

So if you use that tan, geometric-ish Cobbelstone that tends to pop up deep underground? Your Rock Table will have the exact same shape as the default gray, but it'll be the light tan color of the Cobblestone you collected. The darker stuff from the "alpine" biomes where you find the Rock recipes? A set of Cobblestone Bricks made from those will be that same charcoal-ish color. Etc etc etc. Can you make one Blueprint unlock multiple Recipes? I'd think so, since one food item can unlock multiple recipes.

As for the handful of other recipes that use Cobbelstone but don't result in Cobblestoney items, like Asphalt? Ehn. Honestly, the default gray is so damn COMMON at the upper levels I don't see the need for redundant recipes there, but I could see having like four types work.

So, them's my thoughts. Enjoy, won't us?

Yes! I am all for more block types even if it's just a pallet change! I was kind of disappointed when I found some cool rock types underground, only for them to turn into generic grey cobblestone.

Okay so like I tossed this together... most of the Cobblestone I've found falls under four rough color ranges, so...

I didn't do the Doors because that one may be a problem wince those are meant to blend visually with the stone pattern. Buuuut you get the general idea,

  4. Why not just have a separate class of recipes that convert stuff into more widely desired material. So you can have conversion from all the different rocks into cobblestone or alien/rainbow wood into regular wood and so forth.
(separate mainly because i feel like the crafting setup might get bogged down if there's a ton of converting recipes, but it might not actually be an issue.)

Well, it's not like you're ever gonna be hard-pressed for regular Cobblestone or Wood. Standard-issue gray Cobblestone that looks like the stuff you lay down is... really, really common on the upper layer of most low-threat worlds, and virtually all trees give up standard wood.I'm not sure we'd NEED to convert to those.

(Personally i wouldn't mind seeing a few more wood types too. White birch trees giving whiter, more fine-grain wood, the lavender thorny trees giving a light lavender wood, etc, which would then result in different colors of generic wooden decor items or even a few unique ones... I will ALWAYS stump for expanded decor lists.)

  6. I suppose you're right... I actually haven't ended up getting to the late game so I've never really evaluated how common each stone type is in the later areas.
In some playthroughs I'd be really hesitant to collect things so later when I'd need some basic resources i'd be hanging out in an alien biome or whatever -> get annoyed that I have to make a resource run to a different planet. But it's probably an issue of my playing style rather than with the resource distribution.

If they make all of the different stones available, i'd love for them to get their own brick types that retain the appealing qualities of each stone. (such as the horizontal clean grain of one or the dual-color pebblyness of other.) But I suppose that's obvious, hurp.

Honestly anything would be better than the current Cobblestone Bricks. Man I hate how those look.

Pretty much any planet can have any style of Cobblestone in its underground layers, even the default gray, which is pretty common. The samples I did up more or less cover the major color ranges, each one having several different rock patterns. So you're probably never gonna be hurting for any particular style once you start digging.

And I am a major hoarder in this game, resources have never been an issue, hah.
