Greetings fellow Starboundianaughts, and other Chucklefish aficionados. I'd been playing Starbound since within a month of it entering its pre-purchase stage, and while the concept and content was vastly appealing, I found myself with one crippling dilema: the game would crash approximately every twenty minutes or so. The fact that it took a minimum of ten minutes for an initial start-up, as well as five for future ones, the game that showed such potential to occupy my time and interest was left to rot out of sheer annoyance.

Then about a week ago, on a whim, I decided to boot Starbound up once more, to see if there had been any fixes to its optimization. To my pleasure, there had been, but to my surprise, it was even greater than I had imagined! My current gaming rig, an aging old girl coming up on her tenth or eleventh year, if I recall correctly, was able to both load the game in a shortened two minute span maximum, but was also able to hold a steady framerate in all but areas with falling sand or gravel blocks and some of the more complicated dungeons. Even then, the framerate drops did not hinder my ability to play the game, where before they would have booted me out entirely.

While I do not recall what my hour count was beforehand, it could not have been more than 10 hours, and I am now sitting at 85 hours of Starbound playtime overall. I believe it is safe to say that I have grown to truly love this game, and the upcoming updates and future beta stages excite me on prospect alone. In my travels through these five galaxies that the game boasts, I have come across many exciting tales. Wondrous worlds have been discovered, burning questions have arisen, and the time has come that I no longer feel I possess the ability to hold it all within myself. This, coupled with a bit of inspiration to attempt to leave my own mark in the game, has driven me to create an account on these very Chucklefish Forums. I do hope to share, and hear, many exciting stories with and from each and every one of you during my stay. Let us all do our best to keep this game, and its community, as alive and proud as we possibly can. I look forward to seeing each of you around.

Good on ya. Hope to see ya around the forum!
I too play on an older model computer that I've kept updating and working on. She's around 7, but in great shape for her age! unfortunately starbound chugs a bit for me though

Our poor old girls. It's hitting the point where I'm trying to save up for a new one (key word: trying). Heck, maybe if I can force myself to get super addicted to Starbound, I can go the rest of the year without buying a single new game and save up tons of cash flow.

In addition, to both you and the following kind individual:
I thank you for your warm welcomes!

Unfortunately it's not about not buying games for me. It's all those terrible/horrible words that come with being a married man, is school, with no financial support.

I was lucky, my parents helped me pay for college. I still feel your pain though, as far as having to pay bills and support yourself goes (though, again, you've got it a bit worse due to the wife/husband). I wish you luck with all of the payments! The good news is, as far as Starbound goes, at least your computer can still run it. It really speaks volumes for how great the devs are doing optimizing the game.

Thanks! I'm not sure I could have the same positive attitude as you if two gigantic meteors struck my town.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that would be pretty devastating to me! lol But hey, that's what it's all about! right?
