Randomly Generated Mobs

    I wonder why they've apparently nixed a bunch of monster parts and even a humanoid-like monster type. Remember the random monster Friday?

    There's quite a few things in there that look good and are definitely not in the game currently.

    Sometimes recognition with variation is better than complete generic random generation.
    These are some early concept art of starbound mobs before it became completely random mobs

    As you can see the mobs are different but recognizable.

    The current random generation mob style is - Largebioped, small quadruped, largequadruped, hugeBiped, small flying, large flying, small fish, large fish. All these use the same animation base files - and completely random generated nature. So it has a very bland generic feeling.

    Instead if they focused on particular groups
    Deer \ Lizard \ Bat \ Xenomorph \ etc.
    Instead focusing on particular animations for each species instead. Will allow more solid footing and less random nature.

    Thanks Swatelite. Those pictures are exactly the kind of thing that I'm wishing for. There were so many exciting things back in the days of mockups haha.
