Ha, I knew it, somehow I could feel it was him! Still, that's so amazing, now if you could remake it digitally it would be glorious.
Eh..if I tried to redo it digitally I feel like I would destroy it! Though I've had very little experience with 3d model programs, and I was thinking about resculpting it. But I might try sometime. Use the picture to draw it in the way you draw things, and see if I could redo it decently.
Well, the drawing is quite beautiful, wouldn't want to butcher it, still, I will never be able to learn to draw realistically. The best I think I will ever be able to achieve is cartoony like fantasy drawings. :/ I guess it's handy being born with a talent.
But it's not like that at all! I wasn't born drawing realistic stuff. You should see some of the super goofy shit I was drawing years before that. It was a long, strenuous, and grueling process to get to realistic drawings. But it's funny, I wish I could do digital stuff better. I get so depressed sometimes when I see other artists in this forum, and they can achieve stuff that I feel I'll never be able to do, because I never got to go to art college, I can't afford photoshop, or classes on how to be proficient at it, I'm not good at editing things, etc. I can't paint either. I'm good with pencils and blending with my fingers. I've been terribly down lately because I can't draw great pictures. I over-do details and make everything complicated, when there are better artists that leave their sketches and color over them and it looks beautiful like a masterpiece. So you feel like you'll never get realistic, and I feel like I'll never get unrealistic. It's a big circle. I think with time, you could do anything you wanted. I get so anxious and impatient with myself that I self destruct before I have the chance to do anything different. Sorry about that wall text. But your drawings are great just how they are. Everyone has a different style. How boring would the world be if everyone drew the same way?
Yeah, the road to success is long and tedious, but there's just such a thing sometimes, that you know that you don't have it in you. The problem with me and realistic drawing is just that I can't comprehend how people do it, thus my disability to do the same. I guess some people are just better at certain types of drawing, and pathetic in the others.
Maybe so. But there's such a thing as being really good at other stuff and being mediocre in other types (instead of completely pathetic.) And there are lots of tricks to drawing that help with realism. The biggest problem for me in transitioning between drawing before and drawing realistically was that you shouldn't draw lines. Everything will look cartoony if you draw lines. Especially noses and lips. But it's one hell of a torturous process to get to that point. But instead of feeling bad about what you're not good at, find what you are good at and MASTER it. Be the best at drawing your style. It's already pretty awesome.
Yah, you are right, the lines are the killer of realism, I know that much. I guess I will just keep practicing with fantasy-esque style I use and advance it, maybe learn a few new techniques. xD And thanks for the support!
No problem! The stuff you draw is really cool, and it's your own style! That's what makes it great, because you can do whatever you want with it, and hone it to what you would like. I can't draw the way you can, and that's fine. And I can't draw the way Jareix, or anyone else in the forums can. It's good to have diversity!
••• I have no words... That is so f*ckn' cool. Now that everyone is redoing their characters in an even darker fission, I absolutely must do one for mine!
Oh man, I'd love to see that. :O Your character is already great! And possesses darkness of the mind.
Anyway, I still feel stuck as to what I want to do with my art. I've got artists blood from the whole branches of both sides of the family (mom's side: mom is an illustrator and my dad is an architect, ), but I really feel like I have very little of a chance I live up to them considering the level that I am now is where my mom was in 6th grade. I want to go into animation, but I have no clue as to how well I would do as I have no software to do something like that (and buying enough sticky notes to make enough frames costs ~$20), so I'm clueless as to whether or not its right for me. As for style, I feel really stuck halfway between "decently realistic" and "decently cartoony", giving my style a sort of "uncanny" vibe to them since it's not enough of each to be either. (And if need be I will move this conversation to the off topic thread)
It's good that there's artist blood from both sides. ''but I really feel like I have very little of a chance I live up to them'' Well, if you want my honest opinion, first you need to get rid of that mindset, the last thing artist needs is being shackled by the feeling of responsability. Well, over time, you can master both realistic and cartoony, but I would suggest going for realism first and only after that to cartoony, since knowing how to draw realistically should help you a great bunch with cartoony style, like shading. As to the animation program, I'd suggest starting with Blender, it's a free program and should give you the basic knowledge about animations, obviously, for making something cooler you would need something like 3ds Max or Photoshop.[DOUBLEPOST=1437867830][/DOUBLEPOST] Oh yes! Make even darker version of yourself. DO IT! I will gladly see it.
Oh, I've already used blender and maya, but I really mean to get into 2D animation over 3D. (My favorite animated films are Secret of Kells and Princess Mononoke)
This is my character, back when he was still alive and human. This one was a bit of an experiment, I removed the black outlines and replaced them with the darker tone of the color, that is being used on a specific part of the character.
