Random instances of frigid temperatures while digging underground

Sometimes when I'm digging I'll come across an area that is just ridiculously cold for no apparent reason, and have to use campfires to traverse it. It normally only is about 100 blocks in width but I'm unable to figure out whats causing it.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it a bug or something?

Well I can only say that I did find one of such areas too, like... 3 patches ago or so. I think I had to wear full snow infantry "armour" (well back then it was indeed armour) to actually stay warm. Said area was rather deep underground and quite large I think.

It kinda makes no sense as well, the temperature underground should be way hotter because the player would be closer to the core. There were snowy biomes underground in Terraria, but I still haven't found anything like that in Starbound.

I run into that often enough when digging down. Sometimes its colder than others, but there is often this inexplicable strip of cold that I need to through. Above and below its perfectly fine, and there is never any clear visual indicator that I'm moving into a colder area.
