    hi

i am trying to play starbound with my boyfriend but his starbound is really buggy

in both single and multi player his fps drops from 50-60 to 10-15 with no warning

the first drop tends to happen around 10 minutes into playing on average and goes on for about a minute before returning to normal for ~5-10 minutes

he tried running steam as a normal user (not admin) and tried running steam not in compatibility mode but it did not help at all

scanning for viruses and malware also did not help

he says he also disabled vsync because there were issues a few months ago with it but it did not help too

and "sbdiagnose didnt give [him] any errors"

here are a bunch of thingies i dont understand that probably have something to do with his computer

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4430 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D2V Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB ( 1 x 8GB ) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Case: Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mid Tower Case
Power: Supply Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
    Other: PowerColor AX7850 2GB

    i need an adult

That's about "normal" for the stage the game is in right now. 10-15 FPS in dungeons is not unusual, but it shouldn't be bouncing around if you're just staying within the same small area. Have you tried removing the mods folder from the game directory? Issues with mods cause a ton of problems. If you don't have mods or problems persist after removing them, post up the starbound.log file here.

it has been going on for a long time now, at least a few months

he does not have any mods

and he has uninstalled and reinstalled a lot so he says his starbound.log would be useless

The game has been in beta and will continue to be in beta for quite a while. Performance improvements are a low priority right now, although the devs do try to fix anything excessive when they can.

Good, mods cause an unbelievable amount of problems when things go bad (mods break or go outdated).

What an expert, why hasn't he got it working yet then? Glad to know he's got it covered. Best of luck, when you or he decides that they need help come on back to the forums.

it was not always like this

i do not remember when it started as we both took a month-long break from starbound a while ago, but we used to be able to play it without issues

that is the point of this thread probably

is there nothing that can be done without the .log thingy

Typing the obvious here but, Does he know what Graphics card he is using currently? and if his drivers are fully up to date?
Reason being, The GPU is typically the largest influence on FPS for most types of games.

I'm guessing with the setup you have given us, It should be a pretty decent card but to ask anyway :)

Edit: Just spotted his GPU.. Silly me. Ensure that his drivers are fully up to date, If the problem persists, I would put it down to optimization issues.

I have ever played so much Starbound, and it had never happened to me, it's probably problems with your computer capacity or configurations.
