Hello, thank you for scrolling over and opening this thread. I really do hope you like this idea, and I'm also sorry if this has already been suggested. So here is my idea that i believe would bring a feeling of physics and reality to the game: Big idea The main idea for this is adding a bigger weather mechanic to the game, thus adding a feeling of reality. I have multiple aspects that I really think would be an enjoyable and large part of the game. Soaked to the brim The idea of rain being annoying! I want to make this as real as possible, thus I thought of the annoyance of being in the rain without an umbrella... And getting SOAKED. The feeling of heaviness in your clothing, weighing you down. So I thought maybe if you are in the rain for 5 or more minutes you just start slowing down, maybe there can be a slumped over animation with the head hanging down and the character trudging along. The effect would start to wear down after being under a roof of some sort for about the same amount of time. Floods I'm not quite as sure of this one, but I'll throw it out there. maybe a bit of flooding, such as pools of water collecting in holes thus making new ponds and such. But already existing ponds of water would just overflow, sometimes causing catastrophic events (probably not though). Acid Rain I'm really hoping this gets implemented. I don't want this to be an over powered thing that would kill off the player immediately. This would be a thing that would happen only on certain planets, ones with pollution or toxicity in the air. Or in rain forests. But this would weaken the player by poisoning them slowly, it would only deal a small bit of damage over time, but if you stand directly in it without having proper protection... You'd be dead... umbrellas Remember to use protection!! for the rain of course.. what did you think I meant... you and your dirty minds .. ANYWAYS!!! The umbrella would be a hold-able item that would protect you from getting soaked and if you make a strong enough umbrella, it would also protect you mostly from acid rain. I'm also thinking of rain jackets as an armor that would protect you from such... Maybe a strong umbrella could also be used as a REALLY WEAK shield. for like small level 1-10 mobs. So! This isn't a bad idea, but it makes me wonder how much realism is really necessary. I mean, the game will be fine without this, and I'm not sure how much people will get out of it. I assume some people would appreciate the immersive effect, but others just wouldn't care. But I'll still give it a vote, since it's fairly well thought out. But I think acid rain may have been suggested before.
Alright, thank you Jonesy. And the whole thing about some people liking and others not noticing it is what I was going for. It's big enough for people to enjoy it, but small enough to be ignored in game.
I think they've shown acid as a generic liquid, but I don't know about acid rain. It's been suggested and discussed a fair bit, so it may well have been added.
Tiy was asked about acid rain during his AMA on reddit. His response was that there are, quote: I wouldn't take that as 100% confirmation, but it's certainly on his radar.

i think theres a small problem, if your subject to it, why would normal monsters ignore it, also if your slow and there slow what would be the point of being slow? other than that one gripe, i like the idea of a water filtration system or rain-catcher if you will, you could use this with an in game water pressure system or simply hook it to a pipe to water the crops, bottle or whatever else you can think of as a use for water in everyday life, id also like to see temporary floods of water that wash over the land, why not make a swamp biome where this happens all the time, making use of the evaporating water effect from Terraria (i loved the effect, and often dug under the ocean, then down to hell, eventually siphoning the entire ocean into hell, just to see it evaporate)
The slowness wouldn't actually matter, it would more so be an annoyance. Just for the heck of it. And I do like the whole swamp idea, being part cajun, maybe a bayou biome with swaying weeping willows where the water levels are constantly changing and gators and everywhere
instead of making your character slow just give him a 'Wet' or 'Soaked' status effect which causes you to become colder faster so long as your out in it once you go inside out of the rain you will start to dry and you will dry quicker if your near a heat source such as a fire as for acid rain that could be interesting as well be rather annoying if your caught out in it with no type of protection but interesting none the less
well that's a shame I've took the liberty of preparing for you a new better pare made with the finest of silks and very breathable
