Like this suggestion? DON'T like it? Either way, cast your vote! A little surprised that this one hasn't been suggested yet (as far as I know). So, some games have this thing where your body instantly goes ragdoll upon death and all sorts of things can happen to it. Like if you died because of explosion, your various parts would violently fly across the map or such. Or if you get hit by a melee weapon you could have the character split in half or something or just fall to the ground if it was a blunt weapon. ... is that a little too gory for this game? I'm not sure... If it's too gory, then maybe keep the entire body intact but still make it ragdoll and bounce around in response to attacks poured into it after death. The desired result is that I get to chuck a grenade at my feet and watch my corpse go flying into the distance just to see how far I can get it. If a man can't sacrifice himself for blood-sport then what is America, even?
I asked Tiy about this a while ago, the explosion death was just temporary, they were planning on adding ragdol deaths. Basically based on the size of the monster and damage you do, the monster will either collapse or ragdoll and bounce around. I haven't heard if they implemented it in the end, but if they did then it will be awesome! Battling on top of a pyramid sending enemies bouncing down the sides, woot. As for gore, I like gore but they are planning to make this game as accessible as possible. So I doubt we will see gore. Perhaps a mod will add some, I certainly want some. Also I'm guessing explosions will make enemies explode into pieces, by no gore I mean't dismeberment and exploding heads.
Mm. I was wondering if the ragdoll physics would apply to the players as well. I think I saw a little demonstrated on the monsters in some of the videos, but... And yeah. I don't mind gore but I also don't mind non-gore. There should be an option to toggle it off it's included (or by default, have it off, and then have the option to turn it on if you want).
Yes! It would be cool if you could drag dead bodies. Then I can toss all of the animals in the area into a massive bonfire!
This is a pretty neat idea, but why not have a mix of the rag dolls and the explosion deaths? For example, if your character was killed by projectiles such as bullets, then the character would, essentially, become a rag doll. But, if the character was killed by a big explosion, the the limbs would split apart and each would be it's own rag doll. Or, if the character gets sliced by a melee weapon the, depending on the size of the weapon, there would be a chance of when it is a killing blow the a limb could fall off (with higher chances on where the weapon made first contact).
That wwas the idea. Different ragdoll effects dependin' on how ya died. I fin as far as melee fightin' goes, it'll probubbly be more difficult dependin' on wwhether or not they choose to add blunt wweapons like maces. You obvviously don't wwanna see a dude fall in half because of a hammerbloww. But I fin a good, simple "cut in half" animation wwill do fine fer most blade-krills.
So kind of how ragdoll physics was implemented in Cortex Command? If so, hell yeah! Nothing is more satisfying than seeing your opponent fly offscreen at 1,000,000 mph.
Was talking about it on Starbound's IRC a while ago, most of people don't like it, but I, personally, can't see why. Dynamic deaths are way more fun (they would be as random, as most parts of the game, right?), still better, than just those exploding parts, that poofs away as soon, as they hit anything, that's, just… Meh. I'd love to know what Tiy will decide on that, because, I never saw he was talking about ragdolls and/or any physics stuff :s
I mean, come on! Characters and monsters have body parts anyway. But, yeah, that will look a bit silly and unnatural, but hilarious too! Still, if it would ruin atmosphere in a bad way, I'm against ragdolls then. I just won't see it in a way, as it is at moment (stream videos).
Why not? Remember Soldat, N, Cortex Command, LIMBO (well, LIMBO is too complex, but still), Ragdoll Masters, tons of ragdoll flash games too… But if it will look really odd, I'd love to not have it in Starbound as well. At least, I'd love to have it as an option in game (if each client calculates it's own ragdolls and they can't do any effects to the game world, except for just colliding blocks), so it will be just, like a special effect. That would be great.
This was suggested (really, just wrote 'ragdoll' in the search bar - so someone here has been lazy) and it won't work, for obvious reasons if you know how ragdoll physics system works (details in one of the past threads about that, no need to copy paste everything, I believe). It's pretty much impossible to make it not odd as without proper skeletal tracking and so on (and even with it, often) characters have no choice but to go epileptic as uneven terrain affects them greatly. Like in aforementioned Cortex Command - a good game on it's own, but a disaster when it comes to animation and hogging system resources.
