Radiation and Temperature

At the moment, if you go to irradiated, hot, or cold plantes, you quickly lose HP, plain and simple. This serves as a hard ban from exploring other planets and is boring. "You want a challenge? Nah, just follow the only (combat) path linearly". A nice comparison would be from Terraria, where I jumped from silver to jungle equips by putting myself in great danger, although the reward was great. Instead of maintaining a hard ban from environment to environment, a soft ban should be used to allow players to challenge themselves rather than restricting their paths.

    For my suggestion:
All of the effects increase the stronger and the longer the players are exposed to these types of environments
Radiation: decreased attack power. Can be remedied by drinking rad meds. Materials should be available in radioactive planets as well
(For temperature, this is inspired by Monster Hunter's mechanics)
Extreme Cold: slower energy regen, lower max energy. When max energy hits 0, player takes DPS. Remedied by drinking hot drinks (hot choco, coffee, etc.), shelter and heat sources
Extreme Heat: decresaed armor. Initially slow but exponentially increasing DPS. Can be remedied by drinking cold drinks (lemonade, cola, etc.), and shelter.
EDIT: OR decreased armor and an increasing chance to spontaneously combust

This would also allow for a multi-environmental condition planet. One that has both extreme heat and cold, and is irradiated, while your tech would only protect you from one of the conditions.

    What do you guys think?

I say that's a pretty nifty idea... makes the game more sandboxy, but keeps the spirit of progression. Not too sure about mixed threat planets, but in general this gives a survival-feeling to the game where right now we have a gameplay wall.

The mixed-threat planets is just an afterthought, would make things more interesting. Add in a teleporter cooldown time and you have a great survival-feel

Teleporter cooldown will never happen, I believe, and I hope it won't. Maybe you made a mistake and ended up with the wrong suit on a radioactive planet, or maybe you just realize you actually don't want to go. Limiting people's choices is not good in games.
Making hazardous places worth your while by loot and encounters, thus giving an incentive... that's the way to go!

I believe your basic idea offers a nice incentive.
