You asked the question. I answered.

In any case its not unbalanced Dust, because while Florans could indeed fight in poison water without taking damage, Glitch could fight in oxygenless environments, or lava caves with no trouble, just as Hylotl could fight underwater or Avians could fire shots from the sky. It's not imbalanced because every race has onesuch advantage that benefits them somewhere.

Like seriously, look at this list of status effects:

Do you really think being immune to one status effect per race is going to make a huge difference on gameplay as a whole? At most you might have one more road to walk down if conditions were in your favor. That's all.

Last time. What you're pushing is not a bad idea, but it's never going to be part of the core experience for the reasons I and others have already stated. It's a great idea for a Mod, but a terrible idea to be included in the vanilla game.

Yeah, this is how my discussion ended, too, Pepperkat.

Fortunately the dev team fully embraces modding, and are making the game as openly and easily modable as they can. I'm sure something akin to what we want will exist, and I'm sure it'll be popular and fun. We just have to let people know there's those out there that want it.

I think we made a fair point, however. It didn't end on a negative note. If we can find someone with some small degree of skill to make a mod we'd be set to go.

I think you make a good argument Pepperkat, other than comparing starbound to real life. Minor advantages and disadvantages like you suggested shouldn't be hard to balance at all. I don't see why people are so against more variety though. It adds tons of replayability. I've gotten way more hours out of games with multiple classes (with noncosmetic differences) than out of games without them. However, the community seems split enough that the best we could hope for would be an option during character creation to have your class choice be cosmetic or actually come with pros and cons.

That actually sounds like a great idea, difficulty level 1 drops pixels and is cosmetic, difficulty level 2 drops items and comes with pros and cons, and difficulty 3 is permadeath and has only cons. Brilliant.

So do you actually have anything to contribute to the conversation or are you going to just sit around scoffing at every idea you don't necessarily agree with? =\

I don't have a problem with this suggestion at all. It reminds me of Skyrim's racial abilities.

Damn I love this compromise, even if it will just be a mod.

Now all we really need is someone to write it.

Hey, if you're looking for something that will let each of the species play and feel different, I made a Race Abilities Mod that should provide what you're looking for.

Each species starts out with some ability or abilities, some can craft a new item after the first boss, and after defeating the final boss, they can craft any racial item or ability for a high pixel cost.

It balances early game flavor and complete end-game equality.

For example, Floran can eat uncooked meat (gives a little health but reduced food), regenerate energy faster in the sun, and very slowly regenerate health.

It makes for a pretty fun fight around a planet.
