Four custom species interacting, just for villagers to players, is 4×4=16 sets of lines. Doesn't sound too bad, but if each set averages eight lines, that's already 128 lines total. Without counting custom species interacting with the six defaults, nor fallbacks.

Still managable, you might think. But then, that's only four.

 

There are really two factors that come up with this, which honestly I think you are right to point out and I appreciate, Kawa!

The first is work. You are absolutely right that each added race definitely adds work to the mod. However, the semi-community style we are using cuts back a lot of the work. Responses to and from base races are (I think) an assumed part of pretty much any race mod. Users expect at some point to be able to interact with fun little lines to what we all already know exist. In terms of custom races, yes, it absolutely does add some work. Thus far it hasn't been much, putting in my 15ish lines per race took me about 15-30 min each. In the future as other races are added (I still need to add my mantis responses) I anticipate it would rake about the same, probably less as I'm a little better at it.

Adding these lines for me has been fun. I'm personally very much a lore writing, character developing sort. Spriting and the actual coding process interest me way less than this kind of stuff! Additionally, I only am filling in MY race, meaning I don't need to do the work of the whole 4x4/5x5/16x16.

As the file grows, I could see it becoming unwieldy or (if people joined in all at once) kind of a pain. However, should we get a huge group of people working on it, the purpose of this mod would essentially be complete. If that many modders are in, then the culture of modding has changed to mean that races should include lines to work with custom races.

Thus far, this mod has been quick and simple with few problems and a nice little community to bounce ideas off of. I've enjoyed working with the crew and am excited to keep doing so!

I totally get not being interested, of course. If its not your cup of tea no worries!

As long as I'm talking to you, would you mind if at some point we added outgoing messages to felin? It would require no work for you and would broaden the mod and let felin players get a little bonus interaction!

By "outgoing" I meant things that greys, kobolds, mantis, reptan, or varan would say to felin. As always, deciding what to say and how many lines to put in remains totally each modders own prerogative!

 

Please, feel free to put in as many lines as you want.

(Tip: Felin players are referred to as "Hunter".)

make the mod so it can renovate the ponex mod it would be MUCH better if all npcs had different dialog hope you add the ponex mod to it[i give credit to the owner of the ponex mod for this advertisment or whatever it is BUT it aint my mod anyways i just support it ]

 

We're pretty much just adding in people as they are interested! We'll (at some point) possibly be adding outgoing messages to mods that aren't directly involved, but at this point it's mostly a little contained within people who joined in.

With that said, all race modders are welcome!

and on the subject of snake people; send him a message, and if he wants to, he can contact us here and add responses to our races, and ours to his. our rule, it seems to be, is that the mod creator knows their people the best, and should know how they best react to things. it also splits the work among all existing writers.

Hopefully update will come today, but it may be tomorrow. I'm not 100% sure what (if anything) needs to change unless mods need to be packaged now.

I've yet to do my own mod, so if one of you happens to know what this one needs let me know and I'll release tonight!

 

I would think nothing but the version. Haven't checked, so if you make it before me, just try that - otherwise I'll test in about 45
