Racial 'Bonuses'

I know a great racial bonus for all of the races - no bonus. As a few people on this thread (including myself) have stated quite a few reasons why passives won't work. Just let it go, because it's not going to happen. People already did polls and stuff before the beta was even released, but the devs said they don't want it.

How about we just drop the topic? I didn't intend this to be a 'HEY WE MUST HAVE / MUST NOT HAVE IN GAME' thread. It was just a thread to provoke food for thought. I know the devs made their minds up already, but I wanted to give folks something to toy with, maybe even have fun with. I understand folks like the difficulty of the game, and that the challenge is what draws us all in.

It was all to be hypothetical discussion, not elite back and forth.

I Think you are confusing fish with sea mammals...

I already said about this in a topic yesterday but i think racial traits are a much better idea than armor.
Here is a link to that topic, where most people were agreeing that it would be much better.

They did it this way so that people wouldn't just imbalance things by picking the race that seemed the best. As it stands, each race gets racial armor, but any race can craft the other race's armor eventually.

I'm highly in support of this. I don't understand why you need a specific armor to take advantage of their racial qualities.

Games like Skyrim and WoW have implemented such things, and nobody ever complained. Each race has their own balance of strengths and weaknesses. I'd go further and suggest that races even have weaknesses to counterbalance their strengths.

Flora should be able to regenerate Health and Energy slowly during the day and only in sunlit areas, but have a higher weakness to fire-related debuffs so that it does 7- 8 damage per tick instead of 3, and have melting do 125 instead of 100.

Glitch should be more resistant to poison since they're mechanic and also have an inherent mining/axe speed bonus that's always one tier above the mining equipment they use, but also suffer by having halved underwater breath meters.

Apex would be 1.25x faster on land and have 1.25x higher jumps, but due to degeneration that closely resemble primates, they swim 0.75x slower and have a higher weakness to poison-related debuffs so that it does 7 - 8 damage per tick instead of 3.

Humans are neutral in all regards and require no strengths or weaknesses.

Hylotyl should swim much faster and have unlimited underwater breath, but suffer by having 0.8x the movement speed on land (Obviously only applicable in the future should they implement oceans or oceanic planets).

Avian would glide in the air and suffer halved fall damage, but at the cost of suffering 1.125x more melee damage.

    Sounds balanced enough to me.

That doesn't make any sense. Why would a Human or Glitch suddenly induce photosynthesis should they equip my race's armor?

Wouldn't everyone just wear Flora armor for PvP, Glitch armor for mining, and Avian/Apex armor for scouting or something? There needs to be a balance.

actually if you look on the official wiki it wills you what each armor will do:

I think the fish race are getting the short end of the stick however =/
    • Avian: Allows you to glide
    • Apex: Allows you to jump higher, maybe run faster
    • Floran: Allows you to convert sunlight into extra energy
    • Human: Allows you to carry more items "possibly" - might change as it's "a bit dull.. though very useful" -Tiy
    • Hylotl: Allows you to breathe underwater and swim faster
    • Glitch: Allows you to mine faster

I would say yes, but they don't want to add racial bonuses, as people will then start complaining about how one race is better than the other, even though I just find it highly weird that they don't have some small passive abilities. Granted, it's not as bad as say Skyrim where some of the races in the lore are better at certain things, yet in the games any one of the races can be good at anything and never be actually hated by everyone (sure gameplay mechanic but it just causes a gap between the game and lore).

I would actually see Avians maybe having maybe a lighter weight/maybe their feathers that cause extra drag or something when falling that causes them fall slightly slower which would mean they could fall farther without taking damage.

I don't understand this either. Why would this cause any issues? One race would be good in some respects while bad in others. If it's self-evident that you want to focus on combat, go Floran. If it's self-evident that you want to be a better miner, go Glitch. If you want to _____, then _____, etc.

You only have yourself to blame if you end up unhappy with your choice. Technically, none of the racial bonuses I've suggested or that have came up makes it impossible for one race to excel in something should they choose to, they'll just have to deal with the consequences, as all races have.

Personally, I'd just be frustrated because it'd make no sense if craftable racial armor would be wearable by anyone. Once again, photosynthesis with anything but plant life makes no sense, as does breathing underwater if you're not aquatic, or gliding if you're not aerodynamic.

I actually think that the fish people are more like amphibians, or maybe aquatic mammals that don't actually breath under water actually, I mean they need racial armor to breath under water.

I thought they were fish people.

Again, it's a game, and they're sprites, it's hard to tell.
