Humans should most definitely be baseline. No mods, no changes, every other race needs positive -and- negative traits. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Forum Runner
Not agree, humans must have changes. I mean, some race can breath underwater, human don't, but they can hold their breath 45 sec, but Cat Race can stand only 25 sec. etc etc
MAIN POST UPDATED i didnt make negative traits , cose this race didnt have it, about cats: its not usual cats, they dont like water buts as all humanoids underwater breath lenght depend on every person. and i dicide dont make negative traits, cose peoples say 'oh no this race is slower then other, i dont wana play it", but "aha this one have best attack speed, i wana be best fighter!" sry 4 my english)
While diversity is usually nice I am actually not that fond of special traits/bonuses and would prefer differences to be plain fluff. Though I guess I'd have no problem with some lil things not affecting the game too much (difference in how long character can hold their breath in water if at some point player will be able to craft hermetic, underwater-exploration suit anyway). Logical flaw. If race A is better at something than race B, then it's the same as if you'd say that race B is worse at something than race A. So depending on perspective as long as races differ, one of them will be seen by some as having negative traits. Other than that it seems like you try to suggest a few races. Stereotypical, warrior, dual-wielding canine humanoids or rabbit-folk aren't, as far as I know, featured races that the developers told us about. Maybe you should try your luck at Races & NPCs section?
yes if we have only 2 races, but, 1 race is beter in 1 thing , others have similiar stats, so you take that one that best fits you. remember u can use more then 1 characters in 1 world wana figth some enemy - call for you dog/ape, have to some long expedition, rabbits/avians will help you! etc.
My point still stands when you regard 'negative traits' issue. Even if you have 7 races, and races A, B, C and D are better at something than the E, F, G ones, some player will see E, F and G as having a negative trait. What I mean is that you don't need to worry too much about making negative traits because they automatically come to be - based on perspective - when you give positive traits to some other race. It's all a matter of comparison. In general, what is important is the balance - bonuses being balanced by lackings of the race or equal-importance bonuses given to everyone else. I still, though, would say that it may be considerably better to just avoid the whole stat diversity altogether, at least when it comes to the differences really being big.
What if spending a lengthy amount of time on each planet altered you bonuses? http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/adapting-evolving.9176/
