I was looking at one of the new Floran screenshots and the gloomy top left corner drew my attention. As it can be observed, the green lamps in that location are different than the typical candles and torches. Those green lamps are not very luminous and one of the things that crossed my mind was that a Floran could be "concealed", or stealthed if you'd rather, in that part, as their skin is also green. Then it suddenly struck me that each race could have its own special ability/power. This could have even more variety to race selection besides different appearance, culture and item-style. So, just some suggestions here. Feel free to add your own as well. Feedback is welcome. ^^ --- Floran - The ability to blend in in "Natural" biomes - This would not work, for instance, inside an Apex building. Perhaps Biome + Block types would determine if the 'power' could be used or not. This ability would have to be triggered and could have a cooldown of several minutes as well. Stealthed Florans would remain unseen (maybe until enemies came up close?). Should they move, the ability would be cancelled and start the cooldown. This is also a good option for their aggressive behaviour, in order to lay ambushes and such. ^^ Aquatic Race - My suggestion is not very original but if they are indeed an aquatic race, it seems proper to me to have their swimming abilities boosted. As such, they could swim faster than other races and be able to breathe underwater too. ^^ Avian - They might not have wings, but perhaps they could jump slightly higher than other beings. - Or - Perhaps, since they are 'bird-people', the good eyesight of certain birds of prey could be adopted, thus making them a nice choice for scouts. They could either, 1 - be able to slightly zoom out and get a larger view of the land ; or 2 - Be able to detect moving creatures in the dark. Apex - Something related to their intellectual capability would be interesting to have, though I'm not really sure of what it could be. Any ideas? Robots - Robots (if they are supposed to be pure machines) could be immune to certain things that affect living creatures, such as bleeding/poison/gas/radiation and so forth, making them good explorers from scratch. Humans - Not sure about humans either. >< Any ideas? Also, it's worth noting that perhaps there would be items later in-game that could grant similar abilities and could be used by any race. For instance, a Stealth Field Generator to match the Florans' natural 'power'. Or a Gas Mask to match the robots' immunity to gas/radiation. --- I've read that the differences between races, so far, are merely in physical appearance and in items/objects' style. These are just some ideas I've decided to share with the community, as I think that this initial variety is a nice touch to have in the game, making each race more unique. Moreover, I believe that being able to acquire items later on that grant similar 'powers' will make the situation fair. Simply if you were, for instance, an Aquatic creature, it would be pointless to get scuba diving gear, since you already had it in you. :alien:
I think I read somewhere that there won't be race-specific skills/abilities, but I'm not sure.. But the ideas are great, I'd love the Apex to be able to climb trees or something like that.
Here is a suggestion for the Human race, maybe they use ranged weapons more effectively then other races, or for being a rather manual race they could dig through ground quicker.
It has indeed been stated that "playing a race will not change your stats", but I would personally enjoy if each one had their own little special attribute. Floran - Photosynthesis -> Higher health regeneration and slight movement speed increase during the day. Slightly lower health regeneration during the night or while in a dark environment (such as a cave). Movement speed is normalized during the night or while in a dark environment. [Aquatic] - Aquatic Affinity -> Higher movement speed in water. Higher health regeneration while in water. May use "Bottle of Water" like a small health potion. Apex - Developed Musculature -> Small percentage increase in damage with melee weapons. [Avian] - Winged -> Slightly higher jump. Small decrease in damage from falling. [Robotic] - Reinforced -> Small percentage in damage reduction from physical attacks. Human - Ingenuity -> Some basic recipes do not require a work bench to craft.
I would like if it were items that each race can make and only them at first until other races trade for the blueprints or something, for instance the Florans can make Gilly suits, but the humans can make cloaking devices. Only environment use vs. power consumption.
I don't like the idea of racial bonuses and I think adding them in at this point would unbalance the game as gear is the factor which currently determines your role.
Racial abilities have been confirmed to not being put in the game or ever will be. Sorry :/ maybe when the modding API comes out..
Tbh I think racials would be cool but in the endgame and pvp one race could have an advantage over the others..
It's been confirmed that there will be no bonuses to the races themselves, and that the appearance is purely cosmetic. However, each race will apparently be able to craft their own sets of armor that give special bonuses in regards to the races. Much later on, you would be able to get the blueprints of another race's armor and the like and use it for yourself. Giving each race themselves racial abilities would -- no matter how miniscule -- tip the scale of what people would be playing even more.
And I'm assuming these armours would also be affected by the advancement of the races themselves. It would be unrealistic if a floran started with energy shields or something.
It has been very confirmed that there aren't bonuses. Some people would think this to be unfair. Others see it as a challenge. And then others see it as another project to work on.
I think it would be sweet. I don't really seeing it as unbalanced. I think it would make choosing your race just a little more specific and would make different tasks more particular for different players (i.e: building an underwater base the underwater race player could do all the work in the water building and preparing). I don't see where unbalance would even come from? If you made HUGE racial bonuses I could see it being troublesome but minor differences would be cool. I really hope they change their minds.
Being Apex are more or less monkeys, monkeys are more dextrous than us humans, maybe something to do with that?
Possibly, the Avian could glide, but this would conflict with them having no wings... But I swear I saw on the official site it said they could glide!
This and so much this. Races should have more than a visual. Floran: Regeneration? Seems like a logical thing for them, as they're plants. Apex: Creates better stuff? More sturdy gear etc? Possibly they could be able to craft some cool stuff? Avian: Pretty self-explanatory, your idea was pretty good. Glitch: More HP? More damage resistance? Also, as they're machines, their eyes should work as flashlights. Possibly faster workers and slower drain of "food" Human: Maybe, if other races have both good and bad parts. Such as Glitches taking damage from water (rust) or Avians being more fragile, Florans having a "sunlight meter" as other races have underwater and so forth, humans could be completely without any alterations. Hylotl: Why can't these dudes breathe underwater? Seriously? They should both swim quicker and be able to breathe under water. Novakids: Should always light up places around them. Might also do damage to everything near them?
The only thing is that the avians have a story on why they cannot fly, something about their god Kluex (The last sunborn) clipping all the wing off the lower case avians. maybe after a period of time they could get a new layer(?) of feathers and glide? Or even armour that allows it? So racial armour abilities?
If I'm right, Hylotl are amphibious. So they would still need air, but it did strike me as odd that I'd run out of air just as fast as anyone else lol. However, what I'd like to see aren't racial abilities, but the ability to build your native race's building blocks and furniture. Racial armor bonuses would be a nice touch too, but the only problem with that is I'd have to see it the same all across the board. If a Glitch, for example, had better defense on one of their armor, but better mobility on another, it would still be a moot point because the higher grade armor would win out, even if you didn't want the bonus. However, if the Glitch were to, say, have that armor bonus across all their racial specific armor looks, then you'd have the Glitch, and other races, with the ability to pick up the best of that Glitch armor (once other race's get the blueprints), and be able to enjoy those bonuses. Just thinking outside the bun here, but perhaps allow the races to augment armor using upgrades and those upgrades are race specific (but not race locked) much like the weapons and armor are now. You'd have access to the native upgrades within your race, but you could seek out and chance upon upgrade blueprints from the others. The upgrade idea would solve the 'no racial bonuses' lock (I understand and agree with their reasons), while still keeping with some racial distinctions beyond furnishing you see the NPCs using (and can't get yet unless you murder them .
Guess what I saw on PC gamer. An interview with a Dev. And it stated: "Racial Armor: Racial abilities will not be inherent but will be tied to racial armor. For example, Avian armor can glide downward." I was right! I am a psychic!
Is it just me, or is adding a rebreather to armor as a unique trait a bit silly? I think we can do better.
Floran - immune to poison and get better heat from tortes fire AquaticRace - My suggestion is not very original but if they are indeed an aquatic race, it seems proper to me to have their swimming abilities boosted. As such, they could swim faster than other races and be able to breathe underwater too. ^^ Perfet Avian - better with bow or guns more dam Apex - can make stimpacks Robots - Robots immune to cold and food Humans - wepon bouns (guns and meele )
