Races main traits?

Floran are aggressive and crude. Hylotl are peaceful and kind snottish. Glitch are logical and maybe monotone? I honestly don't know much about Apex but guessing from their towns they care about rules and order more than anything? Novakid live for the moment and don't really plan ahead or think about the past.

I have no clue what Avian main traits are and I guess humans are meant to be the control group but in terms of Starbound anybody ever notice any main traits that only humans seem to have?

I really should read up on the lore but I want to wait til 1.0 as it seem like some of it will be rewritten. I want to know the lore as it is not as it was once 1.0 (the first out of early access update) hits.

I might make a fun complex personality quiz for the heck of it but I honestly don't know the general vibe I should be getting from Avian. Ignoring their culture (including the part where they push each other off of a tower) they seem as "normal" as the humans to me. Maybe I just can't read between the lines with them. They always seem so nice and friendly when I talk to them. Maybe they are meant to be passive?

I can barely point out any specifically remarkable trait from the Avian besides their villagers being rather prone to flirting with you.

Humans, on the other hand, can be described as "so generic they're quirky for being generic".
They can also be a bit... "cloudcuckooland-ish" (according to what Tvtropes describes with that term), judging from a few of their quotes (say, not taking warning messages seriously where other races do).

  3. Avian are religious zealots. Or at least some of them are.

That is kinda the issue. If I make a personality quiz it will be based on your player character and not on the race as a whole. So I really don't want to focus on religion for the Avian or being stuck in the past for the Glitch. I'm looking for character traits and not so much for backgrounds. I guess either way it is stereotyping though.

Yea I did notice that. Where Hylotl seem peaceful the Avian seem to really like you to almost a personal level. Is it me or they are the most likely race to follow you?

As for the humans would it be safe to say we are kinda stupid? Well maybe not stupid but ignorant?

Well, the Avians have a fetish for Humans.

  6. They are flightless, and their god grants them flight and technology. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, because I don't follow the lore too closely. But that's pretty much a staple of their race; they are consumed with their evolutionary "right", so they are blind zealous about their worship. The outcasts of their society (every race has an outcast subsect) don't believe in the consuming religion.

Well I always assume that the player character when Avian was grounded by default. Now that I think about it I guess there is nothing stopping them being all about their religion as well.

Do anyone by chance have any debatable proof if the Avian player character is grounded or not?

The Avian PC is an Atheist, it says so in the codex log you get at the start. Not sure if Atheist = Grounded, I've not looked into Avian religious meanings much.

Yeah, it can be said. They are kind of silly.

On the avians, I do think the Grounded are pretty much how the zealot avians call any atheist avian.

I think they are not silly.. but naive and greedy.

As the lore says, the humans depleted all the resources just to be advanced and knowledgeable from every aspects of technology.. also to colonize further from our system.. wanting to take over everything. Until a tentacled creature appeared and wiped almost every humanity's existence. (maybe the tentacled creature is the infamous "Cthulhu" )

Humans in general strive for advancement .. we learn new things.. we sometimes sacrifice anything just to achieve our goals...sometimes without thinking about the bad consequences.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. [IMG]

That is true but the most advance race is Apex. So what, the Apex are pretty much humans but without the greed?

    Something like that... yes.
Apex , as you've said earlier are much more disciplined and intellectual.

the apex government is obsessed with control (everyone says 1984, though ive never read that so I cant say)
the apex player character (at least what the codex says) is part of the rebel faction looking to take down the government

in fact all player characters are technically part of the minority faction (and generally hated by majority or most powerful faction)

I didn't even knew that about the Apex player character, they were always the least interesting race to me so I never gave them the chance.

As for the player character being in the minority, I'm sure the opposite is true for the Hylotl and they are actually working for the race. Can't say I know the Starbound human lore enough but I thought the human was simply someone surviving the monster attack on Earth.

good point, I generally forget hylotol are a thing because they have no cities or anything (not in stable at least)
and yes, humans are just some random person who managed to find a ship and fly away before they were killed

I wouldn't say that apex are by nature more disciplined and intellectual than humans--they live in a totalitarian society, and that comes with a certain rigidity. Apex "peasants" are just folks, but the ruling class tend to be technocratic mad scientists: smart, scientific, but lacking in morality. I never thought of them as a subspecies of humanity, is this confirmed to be the case? I thought they were (originally) a similar but distinct species.

Hylotyl are peaceful, but they also strike me as arrogant. They bear no particular malice toward any of the other races (except florans), but they view themselves as superior to the other races and can be thoughtlessly rude.

I don't know if I'd characterize humans as greedy--using up all the resources is inevitable when you don't leave your home system. The humans we see in Starbound fall into three categories: civilians, USCM, and prisoners. The USCM is hostile and paranoid--I suspect that large portions have lost contact with any sort of command structure and basically gone rogue. The prisoners are the worst humanity has to offer--so bad that they were shipped offworld. The civilians are generally nice people, if a little zany. Many of them may be a little nuts from watching their homeworld and most of their species destroyed. Alternately, maybe they're perfectly sane and losing Earth just turned them into a race of deadpan snarkers.

Humans were the first to invent space travel, and given that they remain on friendly terms the other races, I think they were generally peaceful about it. They certainly expanded far and wide--you have USCM bases everywhere.

Remember that Novakids don't actually have memory problems: they just have short attention spans, and they don't make many records.

This makes sense. I would agree to some of your explanations.

But I still see Humans as greedy beings. If they're not greedy .. the earth won't have been destroyed.
If only humans also focused in developing any means to renew resources , while advancing in space tech., Things could've been avoided.
And that's not the case in the game.. so yeah, I still think of them as greedy and naive. But hey, like I said, it's just my own opinion.

But Earth wasn't destroyed because the humans were greedy. It was destroyed by a tentacle beast that either arrived at that time or was hidden beneath the surface and became active.

I knew that. I should've explained myself more.. My theory was that tentacled creature is Cthulhu.. and he surfaced somewhere around the earth because he was disturbed due to excessive depletion of resources beneath the earth's surface.
