Floran figure if any other race come, they exissst as cultural equivalent of time period first.
    Meatbag sssecond.

But, Floran wonder, what time period not cover?
    Floran isss preciv.
    Avian isss dark age.
    Fissshy isss feudal.
    Robot isss medieval.
    Nova isss premodern wessst.
    Hooman isss modern.
    Apex isss future.

    What left?

    Floran think Roman.
Other race could be lasssy, entitled, yet organized and efficient. Ussse much marble, proficient with one hand spear and shield and bessst with creature capture.

    Maybe lion people.
    Gladiator armor.
    Sssound ssstaff. Rawr.

    Floran alssso think renaisssance.
Reptilesss and amphibiansss, Floran think. Floran alssso think you know why.

    But Floran not good hissstorian.
What other age could race emulate?

Your post format hurts my head.

I think we need some elitist, uppity artists. Ones that claim they're the best artists in the universe, yet refuse to give proof when confronted. I suggest something from the Baroque period, because that stuff is nice.

If it's a culture though, we're missing the obnoxious martial artists. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO NINJAS. I mean like monks who practice some Space-Shaolin or something. Hylotl is a Mix of Feudal and Modern Japan, minus the tentacles and hilarious ways to be arrested. We need something from the other side of the Rising Sun.

There is no race which represents the Early Modern Era (roughly from 1450 to 1789). Avians are completly ok for Antiquity, so there is no need for the Romans. A race with the splendour of Renaissance/Baroque, Age of Sail/Discoveries and Enlightmend is the one which is completly absent from the game from the view of a historian. That was the motive why my own theoretical concept evolved around that!

Pre-Historic (until the invention of scripture): Floran
Antiquity (approx. 3000 BC - approx. 500 AD): Avian
Medieval Age (approx. 500 AD. - approx. 1500 AD): Glitch
    Early Modern Era (approx. 1500 - approx. 1800): ?
Modern Era/Industrialization (approx. 1800 - approx. 1900): Novakids (Wild West is 19th century)
    Present: Humans
    Future: Apex

*cough* space vikings/barbarians/slavers (possibly all 3 in one since vikings where barbarians and did slavery) *cough*

(And no, its not the same as florans tribal hunter-gatherer society, nor is it the same as medieval glitch society)

Rome is a good idea, but what about whatever time period pirates were from?

Also, Apex technology is futuristic, but if you look at their houses they have more of an 80s feel to them. Or they're just bad interior designers.

Each period has it's pirates. However, the Golden Age of Piracy, not only in the Carribean, but also the Mediterranean and East Asia was - once again - the Early modern period.

Also, the Apex may live in "bad standard" houses, but their time period is the "future", like 1984 was the future for the people of 1948.

I don't think steam-punk is an era before anyone suggests that. :)

Although in terms of what I would like to see, Nothing really comes to mind; to be honest we have most of the bases covered already.

Maybe Victorian, you know, just like a industrial revolution instead of Roman that set out to conquer the stars for some kind of empire... Can't think of a race that would be suited to that but I would enjoy whatever came along.

I think it's a conspiracy here that everyone doesn't give a damn over one of the most important eras, which is COMMON SENSE by historians....
The problem of the Victorian Age is, in fact... that's only valid for Great Britain. The "Victorian Age" for the USA was the Wild West, which is already covered by the Novakids. By the way, which race do you think does fit in the Early Modern period?

Yeah Beatrice, your lion people would fill that era hole quite nicely. Need to point that out to the devs...

Roman would actually be called Classical, but I'm not sure what kind of race would fit there. Could have mixed colonies like a Glitch-Floran one, or more likely, a Human-Floran one (if talking two race shared villages/colonies). Renaissance is kinda a bit after medieval times, not sure if it was distant enough to really make much of a clothing distance or even architectural difference from the Glitch's medieval culture.

Though it would be cool to have these time period races/locations.

Another would be far future, since the Apex seems more or less just an alternate reality modern style where overlords are totally supported by all society, meanwhile human bunkers have robots with energy shields, and guards with plasma rifles/normal rifles that look science-y. Also to include the bunkers which have server rooms and holographic glass displays pretty much of the whole planet.
I'm personally thinking that Apex is more Modern while Human is more... future-y.

Hylotl Represent the Early Modern Era (Japanese Early Modern but that counts). Their culture is based on The Sengoku and Edo ages of Japan (1500-1800, early 1900 if you count the Meiji age, but it resembles a huge change for the japanese so it doesn't count)

That's because, rather than being based on the future, they're actually inspired by dystopian novels like 1984.

Beside the fact, that the Hylotl don't represent anything which represents the typical topics of the modern era, because it was highly isolationist after the Shogunate was established. In fact, some could say that the medieval Age lasted until approx. 1600 in Japan and than began a new epoch, which is still a regional thing, but has nothing in common with the typical points which summarize the age of the early modern era:

    - Discoveries in contrast to Isolationism
    - Worldwide trade in contrast to the protectionist government which only allowed the Dutch to trade
    - Decline of Feudalism (look at Don Quixote by Cervantes, one of the most famous books of this time) in contrast to the Daimiyo-era
    - Age of Sail, where Japan instead didn't engage in any naval activity as a nation (no, the pirates don't count, because they were free raiders and no privateers)
    - Revolutionary advance of science, stipulated by the discoveries of Galilei, Copernicus and Newton. Nothing like that happened in Japan, where the Jesuits were expelled, due to their catholic missions.
    - Patron of Arts which lead to a cultural blossom. Some may argue that the Tokugawa-era was prosperous, but neither did the music of Japan influence the world in any way, nor do we know "Musical geniouses" and their heritage
    - Military revolution because of the use of Fire arms, artillery and mercenaries. Nothing of this goes for the traditional Samurai, who changed their style in some way, but didn't have such a military revolution until the Meiji-era

Should I really elaborate more why Japan is one of the regions of the world which doesn't find in any way in that schematics, and that its special case of isolationism is the plane oppossite of everything else which went on in Europe, Asia and the Americas?

None of the races fit neatly into a certain time period in human history. They shouldn't; they're their own species that Chucklefish based thematically on some aspect of human culture. A new race shouldn't be created just to fill a hole in the timeline, especially since a bunch of totally different cultures have existed on Earth at the same time.

They actually had Hive cities basically. They'd build it on an overhang and then the entire city was build down from that.[DOUBLEPOST=1422240461][/DOUBLEPOST]To clarify, I'm talking about these guys http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/the-zaahir.19101/

I'm pretty sure the Frog merchant found in an underground micro-dungeon isn't the only one of his race, he certainly would fit in as a french-like race (since they ironically are known to eat a lot of frog legs)
One could assume that they are excellent traders that can persuade the tightest of spenders.

The other race foreshadowed in the game via statues in tombs is a rabbit race. A good indicator of their continued existence in the starbound universe would be what seems to be a small rabbit that appears to be the one doing the repairs and modifications to a ship. Though this indicator is easily dismissible as an example, it's quite possible that the small bunny could be a chibi representation of one of the rabbit race making repairs.
If this is the case, a safe bet of what they excell at could be as mechanics and possibly builders.

As of what time periods these two races fall in, it's debatable. I don't think they have to fall within major time periods that are greatly apart from each other, and instead could fall in between these periods. For example maybe the rabbits could reflect the 1920's and 30's, and be equipped with Gatling guns and wear suspenders.
