Quick Question about Missions

Hi there, I played Starbound a bit many months ago, and I loved a lot of things about the game, but the one thing I absolutely hated was finding these really cool dungeons on every planet, that had tons of work put into them, only to have absolutely zero story attached. Couldn't talk to NPC's, there was no goal to achieve, no explanation of why these people were trying to kill me, and most of the time, no actual loot or reason to complete the dungeon (unless you just really wanted a prison torture bed off the walls or something).

Please note, I'm not complaining, I completely understand that the game was & is still in development, makes sense. My question is simply this:

Is the game still this way? With like 10% of areas having purpose / story built and 90% not? Or is this aspect of the game a lot further along now?

I only ask because I'm interested in getting back into the game and exploring the new (and old, finished) stuff. But if it's going to be a similar experience again I'd rather just wait until things are more finished.

Edit: also am I still going to find the same dungeon (i.e. human prison) on almost every single planet I land on now? Oh, and the other problem was that every time I found a treasure chest, even on really high level planets, it almost always had the same worthless junk in it that it did on level 1 planets... Made exploring a lot less fun. :(

The dungeons really have not changed to be honest.
They are still just simply "there"
As for dungeon loot - it has improved though only albeit slightly.

Right now they are working on "Primary" Missions which is the main story line. Supposedly in the future Random NPC's are suppose to give you missions which should add some backdrop story to the dungeons. The missions are suppose to be given by random NPC's in the outpost..

Will Dungeons get a fully fleshed out story line? Some parts of the codex contain details of why florans imprison people, same thing goes with Human prisons. But it will not hold some pivotal role. As not every part of the story can be part of the main story line.

There are going to be randomly generated missions soon(TM), but right now, the only difference is slightly better balanced loot and indestructible dungeon blocks (destroy-able shield generators coming SOON(TM) to a nightly near you!)

I think the lack of missions is amplifying the problem I have with the massive scope of this game. There should be a forced-narrative reason to do pretty much everything.

That's not to stop people playing it how they want though.

Terraria's narrative was pretty sparse, and I was hoping (even though a lot of my Steam friends will disagree) that this game would have much more narrative and lore within the world. Not to compel you do play the game a single way, but enough Story content in the sandbox to stand out from the rest of the narrative-free Sandbox games.

A radiant style of quest generation would be sweet.

That's one thing skyrim does very right, it manages to put most of it's map to use through random, albeit repetitive quests.

Though repetitiveness is what gave me an excuse to slap a villager around the ears for not properly locking his house and letting the f***ing bear in for the uptenth time...
