Question to people who think the game is too difficult [Not hating, trying to understand]

I play the game cautiously, I make strategic use of the matter manipulator and create murder holes and lob arrows or snipe through them with a sniper rifle. While people may think that it is cheap to use the matter manipulator, all you are doing really is manipulating the situation to a suitable advantage.

I don't rush into things, I always top myself up with a bandage if I have more then 3 bars down and I make sure to have a decent twohander when I get into sticky situations with non ranged mobs. I want to know, what Is your play style. Maybe we all need to adjust our playstyles a little to help ourselves as gamers adjust to new territory.

Lets discuss birds [not the bees] yes they are impossibly annoying. However, unless lagging in multiplayer the iron bow on a level 1 planet [if your aim is good enough] has been enough to take down plenty of birds. Sure I have to run sometimes, but who would stay and fight after taking a few hits getting down to half hp and being surrounded by three birds and having a possibility of getting ambushed by land based mobs.

There is no shame in retreating imo, barring mobs from getting to you [even if you cannot hit them cheaply] is not cowardice. I so far have beat the even the UFO by using the terrain to my advantage, and not cheesing him either with JUST the iron bow [not talking about the iron bow that can 3-4 shot the UFO either. I am talking about going to the ufo from a fresh save today]. While I will admit some things do need a bit of a look at, it really isnt that hard. It is just slower and requires more than M1 spamming which is about the only thing that ends up getting me killed.

I've had to dodge projectiles, jump over mobs and duck as well. You do have the ability to evade things. So, what is your playstyle? Do you use shields [are they still broken?] do you rush in dual wielding, do you use guns? I want to see this game be accessible to a majority but also challenging and not challenging just because a boss has 30k health but challenging in requiring you to think about how you approach enemies.

Is that, for "beating" the game you have to do unrealistic things, with matter manipulator, or get yourself a cheated gun, and after do unrealistic and repetitive tactics, eat bandages all the time (since bandages are so easy to do is like having life regeneration), basic you have to cheese the game to win.

So is not about hard or easy, is about that it is unbalanced yet.

for me in fact, is not hard, I can do that, I can advance in the game without being touched by any mob, and one shooting everything, and be like super-stressful all the time. But for me is nor funny, if I want to do that things I play "I wanna be the guy", not Starbound.

Sure, but maybe starbound is going to stay at this difficulty and maybe, just possibly this might not be the game for you unless you enjoy what it has to offer. Once you get to the top tier then you get to sit back and relax, build and 'enjoy' it easily on lower level planets. As far as cheating you can do the same for 'most' things in other games. Sure the matter manipulator does this on a larger scale but it isn't cheating when everyone can do it and bandages only heal up to 4 bars on a standard health bar.

So I do not understand what you mean by cheesing the game, again. Things can kill me if i slip up, so why not adjust to the difficulty of the game and play with the tools at hand rather than trying to water it down :/?

The first order of business for me, is usually grabbing a set of Stone tools etc. Then copper armor, and an iron bow. Then I explore my planet and try to find Energy Dash, I won't fight the first boss until I have energy dash, because I primarily use melee weapons (2-H Hammers to be precise.) I build large staircases on eithier side of the distress beacon, summon him, run up the stairs and dash/slash through him, I'll bandage every 2-3 times of doing this, but that's how I fight him, melee mode. :) Without Energy Dash I tend to use the bow and shoot stuff before it sees me, or has aggroed onto me. I'm big on mobility in a fight.

But I agree with alot of the points you're making, I think alot of people who have so much difficulty with the game early, should try a little more forward thinking, and dodging retreating etc. But that's just me.

Yes, but so have I and thousands of other people. Some of us like this difficulty, and if people want to brag about purchasing the game... I bought the gold tier, then 6 Pixel tiers for friends. Lets not bring that into the issue though because I am sure other people have done more. Just because you or I buy the game does not give us more right then the next guy to speak our minds than someone else, nor any more claim to the game tbh. The developers ultimately decide what the game will look like at the end of the day :/.

and before you think I think I have more right, I know I don't and I am asking what people might be doing that may make the game harder for themselves.

As far as the matter manipulator you could probably disable it when a enemy is on screen and I'd be perfectly happy, though it would make traversing way too hard underground at times or building sky bridges even more impossible due to birds.

I would find the energy dash if i could but I have had such bad luck recently with locating it. So I resorted to flattening out the land a little and making a huge strip of land and just fought him with the iron bow [today] it took so long but it was the most exhilarating fight ever.

For the UFO boss I used an iron bow built a strong hold around myself with hole that was 2 squares wide and just fired. constantly rebuilding whenever he broke anything and slept in a little underground hovel i built whenever my HP was low.

Never thought of using a bed, the ufo destroys blocks that slowly to let you regain health in time? Interesting.

The thing is, that what make great this game is that developers are there, hearing us, and making changes for us. And if a lot of people say to them "ey guys, we think this things need to be rebalanced", and other people say "no, stay like this forever". They will become a little crazy, but eventually they will solve the situation and make us all happy.

Once again... difficulty slider. It would solve a lot of problems.

Maybe they do need a difficulty slider, but they need to get a 'normal' difficulty set up fully before thinking of how to balance a easy or harder mode. Maybe they can make a more intuitive one by letting you select planets out of a tier that have been generated with weak or hard mobs. Kinda like how you hit the find random? Well maybe it could allow you to Find random tame [easy] planet systems, or Find uncharted [sp?] [hard] systems, or find regular planet systems [normal.

or maybe just restructure biome difficulty. Forest always being easiest with low aggressive monster spawn and low useful ore find but moon high aggressive monster spawn with environmental hazards and awesome ore deposits. that way depending on your willingness to risk danger you are adequately rewarded without ruining a slider and keeping everyone on an even playing field.

mine was a flesh and avian temple planet. so my weapon choices weren't to great.

Are you kidding me......unrealistic, this is a F@#@ING game with walking homicidal plants, bird people, sentient robots that need to eat, and a F@#@ING tool that manipulates matter, you say that you break the game when you use the matter manipulator to manipulate matter.

Damn that sucks. My planet was loaded for the most part. Though iron was scarce so i ended up having to go to a desert planet for it.

He's expressing the immersion break he gets from that kind of behavior. Not that its unrealistic but it just doesn't work if you want to role play as your character as opposed to creating an advantage for yourself in every situation.

I had a lot of diamond and platinum... which is useless without copper though....

On my starter planet I believe(Not sure because i've advanced all the way to level 10 planets already) but I remember a Gunship in the grassland area, A Glitch castle far left of it, 2 small apex tech labs(Got blink and Dash Which made me laugh pretty hard). And a blue rare shield from the glitch castle along with the full wizard set. Was pretty funny.

I'm guessing daniskarmas native language isn't english, if i'm wrong i apologize .
I think he or she was trying to say, Having only one viable tactic is unrealistic. It's like in minecraft, if the only way to survive was to kill mobs through a one block hole. I could be wrong though, tends to happen frequently

Different people have different playstyles. to you, that is fun.
    Fun is subjective.
No one can tell you that your playstyle is "wrong" because it is how you choose to play through this game, but for those who don't share your playstyle, the game is very fustrating. This wasn't billed as a metal gear solid across the galaxy, stealth game. It is billed as an action platform game so some people are understandably going to treat it as such.

Then their is also circumstance. Some players will get shafted on their 1st planet no matter what they do. Planets are randomly generated as are start locations, so some players are going to just have a bad start no matter what. A good example, I started on a planet with no wood. You know those vine trees that when you cut them down drop plant fiber instead of wood? Yeah I only had those. How do I make a bow? Or a crafting table? I can't get very far because everything is killing me or coming close to killing me. Since I have played the game before I know I can make bandages but new players won't know that.

As it stands at present the game is hard. With your slow meticulous approach to some players that is going to be dull and boring. If they wanted monster hunter, they would buy monster hunter etc etc.

No one reads long posts anyway so TLDR vote for pedro.

True but in minecraft you don't need to block yourself in because the mobs don't bum rush you from all sides at times or have attacks that can hurt if your not careful and in most cases when i get iron armor i end up never dying to anything more than lava or a stupid fall

Though isnt monster hunter marketed as a action [rpg] ish game too? So that is a moot point :/.

Being honest just because monster hunter did it does not mean that this game cannot do its own thing and while yes my playstyle is a slow and meticulous one it does not mean that there are not other ways and faster ways that some people do it. I am no pro at the game lol.
