Question about the "Beta Key"

In the "Pre-Order" section of the website, it says that the $15 pack has the following items in it.

1. (1) Copy of Starbound + Steam Key

2. Soundtrack

Then it has this most peculiar thing called a "Beta Key"

Now, I know what it does, but the question is, is it for me or a friend? Because I already get the game on steam don't I?

 

if you bought it through the site, you should have a Humble URL. go there for a steam key.

I meant... What is the difference between the Beta Key and the steam-key?

 

You will recieve 1 beta key and 1 key for the game when it get fully released. What it means is that you buy one pack and you can play beta with that key you recieve. (it's steam key for starbound beta)

 

So what happens when I buy it on steam?

 

The Beta Key is the Steam key, they aren't different, though I can see how you'd be confused by that wording. No, you did not get two copies, it's just making you're aware that your key gives you Beta access.

If you preordered through the starbound website, AND bought it through steam, well done. you bought it twice!

 

If you buy a key trough the site you will get a steam key, which is exactly the same as buying trough steam.

I think the main reason people bought on the site is because they also got the soundtrack (which is amazing) and also that the devs will get more from the money than if you were to buy trough steam (I think)

Alright, I just thought the Beta Key was something that you could give to your friends so they can play for free.
