Question about preorder

When preordering, if you read it says "we'll email you when a download link is available. You'll also be sent a steam key. "

Now, I don't have steam so I don't really know what a steamkey is, but my brother said its a copy of the game you can give to someone. So does this mean when we preorder, we get two copys? and when we get the 4 pack we get 8 copys?

Really my question is whats a steamkey and will we two copys

  2. As one Staff (he's name is hard) said. Technically yes you will have the double of the copies. But they would like you to not do such thing, they trust the fans of the game who Pre-Ordered will not do so.

I also choose to Support Starbound as I will say to my friends "Like it, Buy It, it worth it".

Still, I insist to force players to choose, Steam or normal Key. When they choose one they won't get the other. Same Freedom, no Steam Keys "estravaganza".

  3. You pre-order, you get one copy of the game, to my understanding at least.

Steam is a digital platform that allows you to buy and play that same game all while wearing pijamas. If you have pre-ordered Starbound, you will be getting a key which when inserted in Steam will grant you a copy of Starbound.

When you pre-order, you get ONE copy of the game. Steamkeys are used to activate a game on steam, so you can use the steam overlay and access your steam friends list while you play. They are providing a download link and a steamkey so that people who like steam can play the game with steam and so that people who don't use steam, like you, aren't forced to use steam.

Similarly, a 4-pack gives you 4 copies of the game, not 8.

  5. And if you don't use the steam keys and give it to friends (what would not be a nice thing to do) you will get 8 copies. 4 non-steam, 4-steam.

And that would probably be illegal.

Also, i think you should bold the not, i read it as "which would be a nice thing to do" at first.

  7. I tried to suggest something to avoid that as a master-account creating to both non-steam/steam version, but Omni itself said they aren't worried about that legal issues and trust the players.

I don't really see why?.. If they're giving you a download on the site, and a steam key, it's your steam key to give away.

You paid for one copy of the game, and they are giving you the freedom to get it from the source of your choosing. If you give away the steam key technically you can't use the direct download for yourself without paying for another copy of the game.

  12. They're giving you the option to play with either, but ethically you should be the only one to use either of those from your single purchase.

I would count it as morally wrong. x) They've worked too hard to get 50% of their sales down.

Well it might just them be nice and giving you two options, but technically they're giving you two copies. They might expect you to just use one, but that doesn't make it illegal.

  15. Yes Indeed. But still I insist to force players to choose one, Steam or Game normal Key. When they use one they won't get the other. It gives the same freedom and it won't cause a steam keys "estravaganza" because sadly some people love to abuse this things :(

As long as they set up there database for authenticating correctly, they can possibly tie two keys together on one account. So that they can only be logged on once from one or the other.

A steam key is like a gift card code, you can't track which account one is applied to. (As far as I know.. :p)

Oi...As someone that delivers flowers on a regular basis to customers within my town and the surrounding area, it is to Serve the customer, but never ever to trust them. While more than 90 percent of the time, the customer is a well adjusted individual who enjoys the product and does not seek to get more than what they paid for, there is that 10 percent who complains for trivial things or pretty much attempts theft of the product because they believe they can get away with it.

There was this one time where I delivered to what appeared to be a nice middle aged woman who was even nice enough to give me a tip of 3 dollars. A few hours later, the shop got a call from the middle man that distributed the order that claimed that the woman I just delivered to canceled the order and charged back her credit card even though we just sent the delivery confirmation. When we tried to get in contact with the lady, the same person I delivered to, she wouldn't answer our phone calls. Now this order was huge, a very large vase with 2 dozen roses among the other extra flowers and things, a well over 120 dollar value. I was sent back to retrieve the flowers, because obviously, she did not purchase them or my service to deliver them. When I got there, she claimed she never saw me, claimed I never came to deliver flowers, and claimed that she never ordered flowers.

The Joke was on her though, because I had photo evidence of the flowers that I took with my phone before leaving to go on delivery that clearly had her name on it. When I told her this and said we have invoices with both her name and card on it, she fessed up and gave us back the flowers. She didn't even demand the tip money back, but it felt dirty so I gave it back to her.

This is just ONE example of a customer trying to take advantage of the service or product provider... that happened to me >.>

  19. Yes. And for that same reason I want them to force the Players to chose ONE, Steam or Non-Steam, not both of them the same time. It's a Client > Customer thing, Trust as you said sometimes it just won't work out well.

They should really have a log-in account system. :p
