Question about future character status

So I just started a new character. Yay. I played SB for 150-ish hours in the last build release and out it down. Which was fine and by choice. Anywho, got to thinking: when a new beta build gets released its gonna basically kill my character's progress. Soooo...hmmmmm. I'm not really sure its gonna be worth it to sink hundreds more hours on a character that will eventually be unplayable because of some future build. I don't care about a universe wipe so much as my character, inventory, ship!

Does this sound about right? Will this happen for us in future builds or has the devs given crystal clear assurances they won't delete characters/ offer a way to safely 'update' them. I'd reeeeeeeeally like to know some official comments on this from staff. Just so I know to what degree to get into the game now. I am sure everyone can understand this question and concern

 

You could install the Creative Mode mod to jumpstart your character.

 

The character wipe going into giraffe is supposed to be the final one, so shouldn't be more.

There can never be a 100% assurance that your character will remain intact and as they are now, in future builds, I myself in the past have been concerned over the same things.
However, I have changed my way of viewing this game and my own characters story. What ever should happen, it is just another obstacle/challange for my space adventurer to overcome.
If that brings any kind of comfort, perhaps think of it as an ongoing journey against all the odds... haha

 

It should be pointed out that its the final planned wipe. But they have also (at the same time) mentioned that not everything goes according to plan.

So while they try to avoid anymore wipes, i wouldent say that its certain that there wont be anymore wipes.

 

I personally just imagine that Character Wipes are my old character "dying" of old-age.

The new characters are just the next generation in a long line of space-pioneers!
