Quadrupeds + blocks = problem?

I agree with GeorgeV, and like I said it's a block game.

That's why I referenced "thinking like an artist" in my post, which is what you're doing right now. I'm not saying you're wrong, because you are right.
What you're not thinking about right now is the programming and coding going into it. Every time the terrain would have a block taken away or put into place would alter the lines, which would require a script to run and alter the course of the 'invisible flat lines'. So, what would happen if there was a creature or mech walking along a fairly regular path, and then all of a sudden someone shoots a rocket, blowing away terrain? Well, the lines that it would've been walking along would have instantaneously altered, which would require coding to then predict and draw new lines. Now what happens to the walking object? Does it snap to the new line? Does it reset and then adjust to the new line? Or does the game simply crash because no one expected this scenario to occur? Not to mention, what happens to the hitbox of the object in question. Does it rotate with the sprite? That could cause problems in it's own right. If it doesn't, is it okay for bullets and other projectiles to just miss the sprite completely, because the hitbox and sprite don't match up?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it couldn't be done. Of course it could be done. But you don't realize how much of a headache this 'little' aesthetic feature would cause for the programmer.
If anyone should be doing this, it should be by someone who will do it in an add-on mod.

Like I said in my reply to GeorgeV, if you making a great game, then why not try to make things right from ground up? Yeah its "little"aesthetic feature for you, but its also an eye sore for someone else. Making it better is not going to hurt the game, but only will add more polish, and that is not a terrible thing. I don't know how difficult it could be, but I have no doubts that devs can fix this problem, whichever way they would decide to go about it. Yes, things might be difficult, but that seem to apply for a lot of things they do anyway, which only strengthens my confidence in their abilities.

If you would name all the things that devs could just avoid because its difficult to achieve, or "not worth the effort", I think Starbound would not be even close to a great game its turning out to be so far.

(Off topic, love your signature! :DD) On topic: I don't think I would be to bothered by it, but would be really awesome if they could fix this!!!

I agree like 90% from everything said. I'm certain Starbound will be the best game ever made (for me). Actually, Terraria is the best for me (not flaming, it's my opinion) but there's a huge chance of Starbound to become the best one. So, this is why I'm worried about every single aspect, every minimum detail of this game! I'm almost sure kind of everyone who bought the game now (before even a beta) are players comming from Terraria like me. Perhaps these players have found in Starbound the same as I did..."WOW, this is like Terraria but even bigger and greater in all aspects!". Man, this game is like the game I've waiting for my entire life, I'm not exagerating. I love to come here on the site to see the daily updates, I really love how this game is progressing.
To conclude, I know npc's floating is not a big deal at all compared to everything this game is offering. And I know would be hard to fix it but read this: Great things are done with little details.

I know big things are important, but so are small things in a game. These little details are what make a game so great, and something that people will notice and say "wow they really went the extra mile to do this, that's cool."

I wouldn't want just a barebones game. "Sure, the game looks awful, but we got the bosses to work!"

I think the fact that is so glaringly obvious and ugly just looking at it in the biomes video makes it more than just "a small thing." Besides, you've seen how people reacted when planets were added to the background. Everyone loved it. All it was was some "aesthetic" thing, but it made the game feel so much more alive

I'll throw my 2 cents in: I'm another one of those people that see this as a bigger deal than bosses. While I can't say I know how hard it would be to implement the suggestions in this thread, I can say that, for a game like this, I feel like the little things are a bigger deal than the big things. This is a sandbox game. I always saw those as "the world is my oyster" kind of games. I don't gauge my progress by things like bosses in these games because how to define "progress" in this kind of game is completely subjective. I always saw that as the point of sandbox games. I only even bothered with the bosses in Terraria in order to get NPCs to show up or to get demonite etc. etc. To me, what will really make or break this game is the feel the world has. When "the world is my oyster," what will make Starbound stand out as an amazing game is that my world is a freaking beautiful oyster with amazing music and nigh infinite possibilities. Grinding and then taking out bosses really just won't. And I suspect a lot of the people you already have here will agree because there are tons of us already in love with this game and all we've really been shown are the little things. After all, we're on the sixth page of this topic, and it's filled with thought out ideas and example images that people clearly put time into. This is clearly important to people.

Its funny how I never spotted this myself. Anyway I totally agree with this its way better.
Its those litte things that make the game so much better right? ;)

Yes, of course. However, I think it's decided, we won't have a "climbing" system or something like that (I'm wondering what they'll do about mechs) but anyway, this will never break my experience with the game (I hope so at least). Now it's time to wait for the betas release to get some more conclusions. May we need to discuss this again later or perhaps we don't. For now, just waiting.

Yeah, we're lucky for that. Only problem is I can see it being annoying if its one of those things where "if you want to join our server you have to have this mod!" or something. It can make things obnoxious just to change an animation and make it look better.

Thats why I'm hoping for it to be in the vanilla game

I am actually not sure how much of it we will be able to mod. We are talking about some serious calculations on the engine side, and I don't know how much access to the code we gonna have as modders.
