Quadrupeds + blocks = problem?

The title says everything, I saw on the Starbound videos, I read some comments, etc.. Well, most of the quadrupeds npcs will stay with half body like "floating" on some situations. I didn't read anything about how the devs will deal with it. So I opened this topic to get conclusions.
First: Will the devs "fix" this or not?
Second: How would you feel about this if they leave npc's this way when the game is released?
A video showing comparisons I made

This is my idea, please support it:

Seems logical. Maybe you could make a suggestion out of this.

would look even weirder if mobs just "snapped" diagonally when they touch a block, then snap back to horizontal when they cross it.

Yes, I thought it too, but I don't know, must be a way of do this better...

They could transform the sprite diagonally as a work around.. but seeing as how they don't have the underlying code neccisary to judge when a monster should be angled, and they would have to edit animations for dozens of parts.. I don't see it changing most likely.

Besides sprites hanging off the edge of nothing is sort of a trope for 2D games. Its a bit lazy true, but like I said its also a little late to go back in fix now. Maybe after release?

To the person bellow this post. You don't need such a huge unspoilered pic just to show a stick figure. ;)

How about having moving parts on an animal:

    It would suit both preferences.

Agree, but this still needs code to determine when such transformation is needed.

It does look kind of bad. I'd be a bit disappointed with it, if this was still in game. but at the same time, I don't even know how it could be fixed without still looking really awkward so I can't blame them. Although, they are supposed to be a super cool smart dev team, so they should be able to figure it out, hopefully.

quadrupeds die when they touch steps... case closed :)

I don't think I'd mind it too much, but I'd prefer that it be changed.

Close the topic! Again, a new generator for the monsters will do. Beta until winter postponed.

My idea for a "solution" would be to tinker the AI a bit to make it so that wider monsters will be more prone to walk on flatter terrains than ledges if possible.

seems like a heckload of trouble to put in, but it would look way better.

Yeah I definitely would encourage devs to look into that and see if they can at least try to play with some solutions. I just watched the bioms video again, and I noticed like 6 or so parts where long monsters had their bodies floating in the air, and it does look very silly or unpolished.

I am not asking for some complex solution that would require change of animations or monster legs pivoting (although if devs really think they can handle working with something like that, then power to them), as I believe just angling the monster to kinda match the angle of the terrain would probably do the trick, it still might look little bit off but shouldn't be as bad as what we see long monsters do now.

Well starbound got this mecha, so i think they already are thinking on that.

Would a leg pivot be that hard? I have never coded something like that in anything I've done, so I'm not sure... One would suspect it would be hell to get right.

Not like I'm at all that experienced, just modding games, nothing as great as creating something from the ground up :(

I don't think they will have hard time coding it, however it also might require them to change the sprites of monster body parts, so monsters would look normal when their legs are pivoted according with the angle of the slopes. I am not sure how many body parts they have atm, but it might be a lot of works if they would have to go back and manual adjust all of them.

That's all just speculation though, never know till one of the devs would take a look at this and give us more clear answer.

Hmm it could end up looking a bit weird though. Seeing the creature creeping down the mountain diagonally like that wouldn't be too bad looking, but then think about the tiny changes in the terrain, if you had very tiny pyramids on the ground created by 4 blocks or 9 blocks as an example. Hmm, I'm not sure. I guess it would look better than half their body in the air.

Man it's August, can't believe we are so close, just a little while longer now...
