Pvp combat

So, from that stream of Tiy, where he and Molly showed some pvp, what do you think of it?

    Not any better or worse than I expect, it's hard to do great in 2d, but it's good enough. One thing, though- they'll probably have to turn off the temporary invulnerability on hit thing, it makes the shotgun/rapid fire weapons near useless.

    I imagine the shields will be a lot less useful without infinite-energy granting cloaks.

    Unless the energy drain from the shield is less than or equal to the energy drain from guns, melee will still be screwed in PvP. :viking:

    I would imagine, that to use a Sword/Shield, you have to spec slightly less tanky, and have more Energy-Regen items. So you sacrifice straight up armor Defense, but get a good damage migitator in the process. It's like a trade-off. I can't imagine using a Gun with a Shield. It can probably be done very skillfully though.

    I must admit, I was skeptical at first, but I REALLY like the new Shield mechanics.

    I'm less interested in direct PVP, I'd like to see some kind of capture the flag system or such, though I doubt it would be hard to set something like that up player-side.

    I don't do PvP. I stick to singleplayer and co-op with friends.

    looks good wonder if the characters will have more movement abilities like in castlevania

    I could see building little arenas to duke it out with your friends in little tournaments. Or team-basd world pvp play competitions for more hardcore types. (Or even every man for themselves.) But in particular I like the idea of making arenas that the players build in the world to play a 'sport' of pvp in them.

    Would be even interesting if some types of the pvp didn't involve killing, but involved playing an actual sport - like with a ball item that can be grabbed or knocked out of someone's physics grip. A scoreboard and goals would help with this too.

    *Cough* Sorry about that. I apologize for that indiscretion.

    On a more serious note combat with melee weapons seems arduous, though as was mentioned before without infinite energy that might be different. It's not static which is good; there's a lot of need for dynamic movement. No one can just sit in one spot and swing or fire away with immunity.

    Honestly there don't seem to be any ways to improve the combat at least in a 2D environment like Starbound. Then again that might be due to the only 2D combat that I come to mind at the moment are jumping on things like in Sonic or Mario or running and gunning like in Contra. It also doesn't help that those are PvE games.

    That's what I hope for. Some double jumps and air dashes would make the combat a lot more interesting. I'm sure there will be double jumps, but air dashes who knows.

    Hopefully we won't have to backwards dash thru all the levels to move faster lol
