    Because it's Starbound.
The word suck and Starbound don't belong in the same sentence together! This game will top all current Indie games to date, it's what most of us have been waiting for for a very long time... you just see! :viking:
Games like this one really have a true sense of immersion and don't revolve around just killing people or just planting and harvesting crops. It's much more than that and all this randomization and uniqueness really adds to the replayabillity of the game. This will be the game of the century, I'm sure of it!

Though I'm EAGERLY anticipating Starbound, I'm skeptical since any videos we've actually seen showed rather barren worlds (in terms of variation on each particular planet), but that could be why the developers were being so tight lipped about it.

I do NOT like, I mean, I ABSOLUTELY hate walking around accomplishing nothing, which is what those gameplay videos at the time indicated would be happening.

    ...Anyone else thinking about this?

You're asking us to prove something very subjective about a game nobody here has played. What kind of "proof" do you think we can provide in that context?

Starbound can't be displayed under any current title, Example, MMORPG, RPG, FPS, etc. they have set it up so it can be all of those (obviously not fps) you can be an adventure game, an rpg, even an mmorpg if you find a popular server. and the quests are randomly generated so youll never run out of content

Terraria has a lot of forced exploration as part of its progression too. To some extent, even Minecraft has forced exploration. Those games are not made worse by requiring you to visit other places.

Besides, if you don't like how the game turns out, they're going to release a Modding API a bit after the game's release. Presumably, you could make total conversion mods if you have the time and ability. They have also talked about the ability to play on a modded server without having to manually install anything and instead just getting the mod files from the server. So, even if they abandon the game quickly (they've confirmed this won't happen) mods will be able to fill in that gap.

The amount of possibilities associated with the game itself, what the developers may add in the future, and what the community could possibly conjure up (Which, I can imagine, will be pretty amazing) convince ME, personally, that it will not 'suck'.

I don't know if anyone can prove to you it will not suck. None of us have played it yet. All i can say is it looks like fun.

To be honest, no one has to prove shit to you. If you play it or not in the end, I'm pretty sure no one else will care. While more footage of the game would be nice, I'd rather them just work on a game then trying satisfy people's desire for more footage.

I like to take things from a literal perspective. Why the game "will not suck":
    1. Because it does not have lips that can form a seal around an object
    2. Because it does not have lungs to create a pressure difference causing the suction effect.

Well keep in mind this is still alpha/close beta or something so it is hard to say if the final product will be like that and the videos they have put out are really just tech demos from the stuff i have being reading on this thread (http://community.playstarbound.com/...nced-game-information-updated-april-15th.450/) i feel that the game should have alot of thing you can do and it will be quite dynamic and alive but once again this is just a thread so there is a chance that it could be wrong but for the most part i think its farily soilded information i also have started doing a video series on that list so free feel to check it out.

Thread were i post my videos:

Hmmm i really dont see your point here, forced eploration? Cant see it so forced IMO since theres going to be alot of dungeons, u can always build, nothing is forcing u to explore to progress faster, remember the planets are random generated in difficulty.
Saying that a game will suck before we even got a hint of gameplay is a little stretch, saying CoD Black ops 3 will suck i can understand since they are all the same games, but theres nothing like Starbound really, the closest thing is Terraria, and that was a fucking mindlowing fun game.
Guess im saying: Dont judge before seeing/played the game.

Terraria didn't suck. Well, ofcourse there are people that didn't like the game, but you'll find more than a few of those for every game.
But in overall, Terraria was a good game and received positive reviews all of the internet. Starbound seems to be bigger and better. So... I'll be good!

I think you might be omitting the fact that there will be a plot and quests. I mean besides everything else you can imagine. I don't actually feel like I can convince anybody that Starbound is going to be amazing (because I'd have to pour text/words upon them) but that's the way I feel about it. I do have a grain of skepticism as well just because it seems amazing conceptually and I don't know much else about it, but it is so worth the shot. This is like that thread "Is Starbound worth preordering ?". Honestly, for 15$ YES ! But I digress. Think about it this way:
    1. I heard people on the development team worked on Terraria before this project (I haven't played it myself but I've watched some friends). As far as I know that game was pretty successful and somewhat unique. They have that experience and all the feedback from that experience surely. So mechanically it should be pretty "smooth"
    2. Do you like the art style ? (I was going to say the art style is great, but I'm trying to be a little less subjective)
    3. They seem to have enough support to get the job done right
    4. From the scarce information we have the game seems to be incredibly varied
    5. Arenas/minigames
    6. I'm sure I needn't enumerate further
    and
    7. What more do you fing want ?
Sorry for the poorly structured post (and ninja edits), it's just so hard to try and get across the feeling of awesomeness I get from this game :DD I hope I've presented you with some valid reasons to have faith in the game from my little knowledge of it.

PS: of course the game might not appeal to some people, but if it turns out to be even half of what it promises, it will be an amazing game, and something that hasn't been achieved ever before in gaming. Peace !
