This is just an open discussion to prevent future conflicts by having a blockID convention standard. I started noticing a few items with the same names popping up. I think something simple as blockname+forum user ID # should be sufficient. Since no 2 forum users have the same ID. [Theoretically] The ID # can be found by going to a persons profile. For example mine would be Code: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?members/xxswatelitexx.12375/ So my ID would be xswatelitexx.12375 Tiy's ID is Tiy.2 So the ID reference for objects in my mod would be something like Distillery12375 Hamburger12375 So if another person makes an item called hamburger their shouldn't be an issue. ======= What do you think?
I think it's a great idea, but it's really a matter of modders just making better habits. I'm familiar with stuff like this from other games, so I prefix all of my mods with either sab_ or sabboth_ so nothing conflicts with them. Some sort of identifying prefix makes it easier to sort and also makes it unique. The only problem is will modders do it?
You proposed something similar to what Sabboth said in your first S2F tutorial, Swat, which I think (and hope) most beginner modders are using to get their foot in the door. Might as well stick with that convention to keep things simple for us newbs. That's what I've been doing atleast.
