I love trading with friends in games so we can switch up our equipment, but I also like to trade with random people for money. Half the time I try and make a deal they end up stealing my money and running away so I go hunt them down and get my money back. In Starbound I would like it if there was a trading system so both players must agree to the deal and the money and item are switched at the same time for an equal trade. Everybody gets along fine. thoughts?
I COMPLETELY support this decision! You were so easily scammed in Terraria with "drop trades", this would allow trading to be 100% safe, and it would also be more convinient than just dropping your items.
I like this idea. In Neverwinter Nights, Runescape, Diablo 3, and a few other games incorporate this into the game.It really added a safe way to trade. Unlike terraria " hey give it back you didnt pay me!"
But can't the person just switch their items at the very last second? Say two guns look very similar, one has wayyy stronger stats while the other ones just plain bad. Then the guy puts in the good one, and after you put your trades in, switches it for the bad one?
They would probably make it so you would choose from your inventory and the person you are trading with can choose too, so once both players choose the item it can be traded. So if you select a cheese burger but the other person selects a grenade the deal is off
I doubt starbound will be released on steam. And I think Captain_Bananer is refering to trading In-game, not using third-party softwarez. Lots of trolls will abuse that system then, and can you be a little more specific?
A proper trading system to work among players would definitely be a very good idea. I disagree with people choosing from others' inventories, however. An inventory is a private thing. The way I think it should work is... Assuming these two individuals (Player A and Player have already agreed in what to trade - Player A wants to trade a Silver Flashlight for 2 boxes of medical supplies. 1 - Player A clicks the Trade button from a hotbar and selects Player B afterwards. Continue on 2 2 - Player B gets a small window on the side with a trade invitation from Player A, which B can accept or refuse. To accept, see 3. To refuse, see 4. 3 - Player B accepts and a window pops up in the middle of the screen, both for player B and player A. The window is split into two columns, one representing each player's offer. Continue on 5. 4 - Player B refuses the trade offer and another trade cannot be issued to him for another 20 seconds, regardless of who sends the invitation, in order to avoid trade spamming. To see a new trade, go back to 1. 5 - Player A places a Silver Flashlight on his column. Player B places 2 boxes of medical supplies on his. Player A clicks Accept and his column turns green - Player A can no longer alter the contents of his offer table, unless a new trade is established. Player B must now Accept or Refuse. To Accept, see 6. To Refuse, see 4. 6 - Player B clicks Accept and his column turns green, too. A new window would pop up over the trade window for both players. Its information for Player B would be - 'You are giving 2 boxes of medical supplies. You will acquire a Silver Flashlight.' Player A would get a different message - 'You are giving a Silver Flashlight. You will acquire 2 boxes of medical supplies.' - Both players would have to click Confirm on this new window in order for the trade to occur. Should any push Cancel, the trade would be off. Edit: I'd like to add that people could still throw items into the world that become visible to other players, so that in emergency situations, when a med-pack is required, for instance, people could give/acquire items much faster than having to go through the trade windows.
I agree with this except step 5 "Player A can no longer alter the contents of his offer table" I prefer the system World of Warcraft uses. 2 columns, both players can add whatever they want. However when A has accepted, and B changes something the green colour of A disappears and he has to accept again, thus he knows something has changed.
Protected trading is definetly a must. Nothing stifles trade in a game like fear of getting ripped off by someone else.
It should also haggling section, with a private chat thingy, so if you have a market going the normal chat doesn't get over crowded.
Sounds good to me. A bit more versatile, yet still safe. (I know WoW, btw Horde level 90 retribution Paladin ^^ But haven't played in a few months because I didn't like the new expansion much. Too much dailies and grinding rep Spent an eternity getting half decent raid gear...)
